ToolHaven 2.1.0

A Windows desktop workbench for open-source CLI tools — media, images, PDFs and
developer utilities, without the command line.

First release since 1.0.0.

New

  • It updates itself. Checks for a new version on launch, downloads and
    installs it, then offers a Restart button — it never pulls the window away
    mid-job. Every update is signature-verified before it runs.
  • Nothing left to install by hand. 7-Zip, MKVToolNix, ImageMagick and
    ExifTool now download in-app like everything else. Nine tools ship inside the
    installer, seventeen download on demand, and nothing ever asks for
    administrator rights.
  • Stop a running operation, from the queue or from its panel. Stopping kills
    the whole process tree, so nothing is left writing in the background.
  • The queue and history survive a restart. Anything interrupted says so
    instead of pretending to still be running.
  • Name the music that is playing — from your speakers or a microphone. One
    button, a live meter, and it starts looking after four seconds rather than
    waiting for the whole clip. Results link to Apple Music, Spotify and YouTube
    Music.
  • Find where a picture came from with Google Lens, Yandex, Bing or TinEye.
  • Enlarge a photograph with a model (Nomos8kSC), on the image card beside
    resize and crop. Needs a Vulkan-capable GPU.
  • Read text out of scans with Tesseract, into a text file or a searchable
    PDF.
  • Two new settings: how many operations run at once, and what to do when a
    file already exists.
  • Every download states its size before it starts.

Fixed

  • Enlarging an image could return a scrambled picture at 2× and 3×.
  • The modal stopped blurring its background in release builds.
  • The default folder in Settings only moved the save dialog instead of deciding
    where files go.
  • The link on a recognised track led to a page that returns an error.

Privacy

Nothing about you is collected: no telemetry, no analytics, no account. Every
operation on a file runs locally, on the file in place.

Four things reach the internet, and each is the point of the thing doing it:
downloading media, fetching a tool you asked to install, checking for a new
version, and the two recognition tools — reverse image search uploads the
picture you chose, and music recognition sends a fingerprint computed on your
machine, never the sound. Both say so in the panel before they run.

Windows x64 only. SHA-256 checksums in checksums.txt. The portable build does
not update itself. SmartScreen will warn on first run: the installer is not
code-signed.
