Project Golf is a Minecraft golf mod focused on proper course building, physics-driven gameplay, multiplayer rounds, and long-term course competition.
Project Golf requires:
- Minecraft 1.21.1
- NeoForge
- Ritchie's Projectile Library
Install Project Golf and Ritchie's Projectile Library into your mods folder.
Project Golf includes five standard club types:
- Driver
- Wood
- Iron
- Wedge
- Putter
Each club is intended for a different part of the game.
Designed for maximum distance from the tee.
Long-range club with more control than the Driver.
General-purpose club for approach shots and medium distances.
Designed for shorter shots, higher trajectories, bunkers, and approaches.
Designed for rolling shots on and around the green.
Rare upgrade clubs can also be crafted.
These retain their normal club category while providing unique performance characteristics.
Current specialty clubs include:
- Nautilus Shell Wedge
- Heart of the Sea Wedge
- Dragon's Breath Wood
- Totem Iron
- Echo Shard Putter
They work with the normal swing, prediction, scoring, and HUD systems.
Golf balls are physical entities rather than simple projectiles.
They support:
- Carry distance
- Roll distance
- Total distance
- Terrain friction
- Hills and slopes
- Wind
- Water
- Out-of-bounds areas
- Bunkers
- Natural terrain
- Putting physics
- Hole capture
- Multiplayer ownership
Only one active competitive ball is maintained per player during normal course play.
Golf balls are available in all 16 Minecraft dye colors.
A ball's color is visual only. Ownership is tracked independently.
To recolor a ball:
Golf Ball + Dye → Colored Golf Ball
This is a shapeless crafting recipe.
All colors are also available from the Project Golf Creative tab.
The Golf Bag is portable equipment storage.
It contains 18 slots and may only store:
- Project Golf clubs
- Project Golf golf balls
Other items cannot be placed inside it.
Another Golf Bag cannot be stored inside a Golf Bag.
Hold a golf club and begin a shot with Right Click.
The swing system has two stages:
- Power
- Accuracy
Release the power meter at the desired strength.
Then time the returning accuracy meter as close to the center as possible.
Poor accuracy can send the ball left or right.
A perfect strike produces the most accurate result.
While holding a club, the Project Golf HUD displays:
- Current club
- Planned distance
- Planned power
- Wind
- Swing information
Use:
Shift + Mouse Wheel
to adjust your planned shot distance.
The predicted trajectory and landing indicator update with your selected power.
Prediction is calculated client-side while the actual shot remains server-authoritative.
Wind affects airborne golf shots.
It does not significantly affect putting.
The HUD displays both wind strength and direction.
Wind changes gradually and may become stronger during poor weather.
Different surfaces affect the golf ball differently.
Supported golf surfaces include:
- Tee Grass
- Fairway
- Fringe
- Putting Green
- Rough
- Deep Rough
- Bunker Sand
Natural Minecraft terrain is also recognized.
Examples include:
- Grass
- Dirt
- Sand
- Snow
- Woods
- Hard ground
- Water
A course does not require artificial boundaries.
If you hit your ball into the woods, you normally play it from the woods.
Project Golf provides terrain pieces specifically for building smooth courses.
Available golf slabs include:
- Grass
- Tee Grass
- Fairway
- Fringe
- Putting Green
- Rough
- Deep Rough
- Bunker Sand
Golf balls can transition naturally between compatible slabs and full blocks.
Putting Green Layers allow very precise green shaping.
Available heights:
- 1/4 block
- 1/2 block
- 3/4 block
- Full block
Precision slopes allow transitions between quarter-block elevations.
These are available for:
- Putting Green
- Fairway
- Rough
- Bunker
Examples include:
- 0 → 1/4
- 0 → 1/2
- 0 → 3/4
- 0 → 1 block
- 1/4 → 1/2
- 1/4 → 3/4
- 1/4 → 1
- 1/2 → 3/4
- 1/2 → 1
- 3/4 → 1
Full-height slope variants are also available.
Golf balls respond physically to slopes and can:
- Slow while travelling uphill
- Accelerate downhill
- Stop on a hill
- Roll backward when they fail to reach the top
A Tee Marker defines the official starting location of a golf hole.
When starting a hole, the player's ball is automatically placed at the linked Tee Marker.
Golf balls manually placed on a Tee Marker snap cleanly onto the tee.
Before the first stroke of an official hole, moving the competitive ball away from the tee will cause it to be restored to the proper starting position.
The Golf Cup defines the hole location.
Cup capture depends on both:
- Ball position
- Ball speed
A slow, accurate putt may fall into the cup.
A fast putt can travel directly across it.
Courses can be created through the Course Design interface.
Open the Course Designer and create a new course.
Course metadata supports:
- Course name
- Designer / author
- Description
- Difficulty
- Location
- Individual hole names
- Hole par
Each hole requires:
- Hole number
- Par
- Tee Marker
- Golf Cup
Guide points are optional.
A typical workflow is:
- Create the course.
- Configure Hole 1.
- Enter its name and par.
- Choose
Save + Select Wand. - Return to the world.
- Link a Tee Marker.
- Link a Golf Cup.
- Add optional guide points.
- Return to the Course Designer.
- Create the next hole.
Guide points define the visual route of a hole.
They are useful for:
- Doglegs
- Hole previews
- Flyovers
Guide points do not create course boundaries.
Players remain free to hit the ball anywhere.
Course Design provides guarded deletion controls.
Both course and hole deletion require confirmation.
Courses cannot be edited or deleted while players are actively playing them.
Deleting a course does not destroy the Tee Marker or Golf Cup blocks in the world.
Historical scorecards remain available even if the original course is later deleted.
Open the Course Clubhouse or interact with the course system to choose a course.
The course browser displays information such as:
- Course name
- Hole count
- Total par
- Difficulty
- Location
- Designer
- Description
- Course record
Select Play Course to begin.
Your competitive ball will be placed on the first Tee Marker.
During an active round, the HUD displays information including:
- Course
- Hole
- Par
- Current strokes
- Running score
- Distance to pin
- Wind
Multiplayer rounds also display information about the other players in your group.
Default key:
V
Hole View provides an elevated view of the current hole.
It uses:
- Tee
- Cup
- Guide points
to frame the course.
Default key:
B
Flyover creates a moving camera presentation of the hole.
While using Hole View or Flyover:
Left Arrow → Previous hole
Right Arrow → Next hole
This makes it possible to preview an entire course before playing.
Project Golf supports simultaneous multiplayer rounds.
Players starting together are placed into the same playing group.
Each player's:
- Ball
- Ownership
- Score
- Hole state
- Round state
remains independent.
Golf-ball collisions between players are disabled.
Players are not forced into rigid turns.
This allows both traditional rounds and casual multiplayer play.
Completing or leaving a round awards a physical Golf Scorecard item.
The scorecard permanently records a snapshot of that round.
Information can include:
- Course
- Player
- Date
- Time
- Weather
- Minecraft time of day
- Hole-by-hole scores
- Hole pars
- Penalties
- Front-nine total
- Back-nine total
- Overall score
- Score relative to par
- Playing partners
- Course metadata
- Whether the round was completed or exited early
Right-click the scorecard to view it.
The card is only a copy of the result.
Round history is also stored persistently by the server.
Project Golf keeps persistent player round records.
Use the Scorecard Archive to view previous rounds.
Historical scorecards remain accessible even if the physical paper scorecard is lost.
Completed official rounds contribute to persistent course records.
Leaderboards track players' best completed rounds for each course.
Partial or abandoned rounds cannot become course records.
The Driving Range Tee is used for practice outside an official golf course.
Place a golf ball on the Driving Range Tee and it will snap to the tee position.
Driving Range shots:
- Do not require a cup
- Do not count as official course strokes
- Measure carry
- Measure roll
- Measure total distance
- Report the final lie
This makes the block useful for:
- Driving ranges
- Long-drive competitions
- Target practice
- Create-powered moving targets
- Custom minigames
The Golden Spotter helps locate important golf objects.
While held, it highlights:
- Your golf ball
- Current Tee
- Current Cup
It is especially useful after long shots or when playing large courses.
Project Golf includes golf-specific advancements.

Some achievements also award collectible golf trophies.
Three trophy items are available:
Awarded for completing a full official course.
Awarded for completing an official full course under par.
Awarded for achieving an official Hole in One.

View persistent results for a course.
Operators can manage courses through the Course Design GUI.
Command-based tools also remain available for administration and recovery.

Course deletion and hole deletion also have command fallbacks with explicit confirmation.
Project Golf provides server and client configuration.
Server settings control gameplay-affecting behavior such as:
- Shot distance multiplier
- Wind strength
- Accuracy timing
- Perfect accuracy window
- Swing cooldown
- Water penalties
- Out-of-bounds penalties
- Ball movement failsafes
- Holed-ball cleanup
- Multiplayer grouping radius
- Driving Range behavior
- Celebrations
- Landing indicators
Server gameplay settings remain authoritative in multiplayer.
Client settings control visual features such as:
- Trajectory guide
- Wind wisps
- Distant-ball visibility scaling
- Maximum distant-ball scale
- Ball locator
- Shot summaries
- Hole View markers
For natural-looking courses:
- Use Fairway for primary shot corridors.
- Blend Fairway into Fringe near greens.
- Reserve Putting Green for the immediate cup area.
- Use Rough and Deep Rough to define course shape without invisible boundaries.
- Use precision slopes around greens rather than abrupt full-block elevation changes.
- Use guide points only where the intended hole route is not obvious.
- Avoid making every green perfectly flat.
- Leave natural terrain in play where possible.
Project Golf is designed around "play it where it lies," not restrictive course borders.
Project Golf is designed to avoid unnecessary server load.
Important behaviors include:
- Stationary golf balls enter a sleeping state.
- Competitive balls are cleaned up when orphaned.
- Ball physics remain server-authoritative.
- Trajectory prediction is client-side.
- Visual effects are primarily client-side.
- Golf does not permanently chunk-load the course.
- Ball-to-ball collision is disabled.
Project Golf does not require Create.
However, the systems work well with other building and automation mods.

- Moving course decorations
- Automated clubhouses
- Scoreboard displays
- Golf carts and course vehicles
- Custom multiplayer minigames
Use the Golden Spotter or check your active round state.
Before the first official stroke, the competitive ball must remain at the configured Tee Marker.
Fast putts are intentionally capable of crossing the cup without falling in.
This is normal. Slopes affect ball speed and gravity.
Check that every required hole has both:
- Tee Marker
- Golf Cup
Use Course Design to identify incomplete holes.
Driving Range shots are intentionally separate from official course scoring.
