Digital Habits: To-Do 3.1.5

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 12 Oct 13:14

Linux is in beta. Digital Habits: To-Do now comes for Linux, as an AppImage that updates itself and as a .deb. If the focus window does not stay on top on your desktop, or something else does not work, please tell us in an issue.

On macOS and Windows, get the app from the Mac App Store or the Microsoft Store. The stores keep it up to date.

This update is for Linux.

Tasks & Focus Mode

  • [linux] On Hyprland (Omarchy, for one), the app runs on Wayland and is sharp
on scaled screens. Hyprland floats the focus window and keeps it on top.
  • [linux] The focus windows are called "Digital Habits focus 1" and "Digital
Habits focus 2", so a window rule can find them.

This update comes with some useful new features, design improvements, and under-the-hood improvements.

Tasks & Focus Mode

  • A new install starts with one list, To-dos, so you can add a task right away.
  • The time on a done task now shows in hours and minutes, like a duration.
  • Moving a card in a column sorted by due date or name now keeps the order you
made, and the column switches to Manual.
  • Finishing a task from a focus window keeps the time you spent on it.

Calendar

  • A week goal can cover several days and be for more than one person.
  • You can make a whole note bold, italic or underlined in one go.
  • In the Week view, one click is enough to start writing a note.
  • A linked calendar that is asked too often is left alone for a while instead
    of failing.

Integrations

  • [macos] A task dropped on a list that follows Apple Reminders now gets its
    reminder.

Fixes & Polish

  • A welcome screen greets you on first launch.
  • [macos] The app sends an anonymous daily usage count, which you can turn off
    in Settings.
  • [windows] The app sends an anonymous daily usage count, which you can turn
    off in Settings.
  • Settings now shows the right version number.
  • The design of the Settings screen has been improved.
  • The design of the Calendar, the Done list and the list tabs has been
    improved.
  • Danish translations have been improved.

Internal

  • The To-Do page is split into smaller parts, with new tests for tasks, sync,
    drag-and-drop and focus windows.
  • Settings reads the version from apps/todo/package.json, so a release bump
is the only place to change it.

BRANDING

  • A proper welcome to Digital Habits. Existing users upgrading from
ReDD To-Do now get a one-time announcement on first launch explaining
the new app name and that the Reduce Digital Distraction Project is now
    Centre for Digital Habits (digitalhabits.org).

SETTINGS

  • Full-screen Settings on narrower windows. On thinner windows, Settings
opens as a full-screen sheet with a sticky header (back + title), sticky
Close footer, and the view switcher / settings gear hidden so you stay in
    Settings until you leave.
  • Clearer Settings layout. Feedback and suggestions sit at the top of
Settings, and Close stays pinned in a sticky footer while you scroll.
  • External links open once. Links in Settings (and elsewhere) no longer
open two browser tabs when clicked.

LISTS & IMPORT

  • Import options match what’s connected. When editing a list, Basecamp
and Apple Reminders import choices only appear if that integration is
actually connected — unused options stay hidden.

BASECAMP

  • More reliable Basecamp sync. Basecamp API requests now identify the
app correctly, so connect and sync stay stable against Basecamp’s API
    requirements.
  • Large number of projects. The project dropdown no longer comes back
empty or incomplete when you have many projects — it loads the full
list without tripping Basecamp’s rate limits.
  • Smoother list sync. Syncing Basecamp lists (especially ones with
many sections) paces requests and retries when rate-limited, so sync is
less likely to fail or miss work.

BY PLATFORM

macOS

  • Reminders connect with empty accounts. You can connect Apple
Reminders even when you don’t have any lists yet, instead of being
    treated as a permission failure.

  • Reminders stays responsive. Connecting and syncing Reminders no
longer freezes the app UI while waiting on EventKit — especially
    noticeable with large iCloud accounts.

  • Clearer Reminders messages. Access-denied and empty-list guidance
    after connect is clearer.

  • Version: 2.9.0 (macOS and Windows).
