Release Notes:

  • Improved reliability when Windows switches, reconnects, or changes the default microphone.
  • Added automatic Simplified Chinese interface text when Windows is configured for Simplified Chinese. English remains the default and fallback language.
  • Improved pause/resume behavior, shutdown cleanup, autorun setup, and configuration saving.
  • Removed unnecessary periodic memory trimming.
  • Added automated Windows build and single-file release checks.

Simplified Chinese translation adapted from the work by BaoZiFly-233.

Advanced technical changes

  • Serialized Core Audio endpoint state to prevent device-binding operations from racing each other.
  • Debounced default-microphone changes without blocking Windows audio callback threads.
  • Improved callback cleanup during microphone replacement, pause, shutdown, and application exit.
  • Removed forced COM release loops that could invalidate objects still in use.
  • Corrected a Core Audio channel-volume interop signature.
  • Changed configuration saves to use atomic file replacement.
  • Allowed --install and --uninstall commands to work while the tray application is already running.
  • Added read-only build validation using official GitHub actions pinned to exact commits.

What it is

A tiny Windows tray app that keeps your default microphone volume fixed at a target you choose (1–100%). It corrects the volume immediately when another application or Windows attempts to change it.

Highlights

  • Set and persist a target volume (1–100%)
  • One-click "Install autorun" to start hidden at sign-in
  • Automatically uses Simplified Chinese interface text on supported Windows language settings
  • English fallback for other Windows languages
  • Lightweight single EXE. No admin. No telemetry. No logs

Download

  • Windows x64: MicLockTray.exe (single file, no .NET runtime required)

Installation

  1. Download MicLockTray.exe
  2. Run directly - no installation required
  3. First run may trigger Windows SmartScreen: click "More info → Run anyway"

Use

  • Set target volume…: choose 1–100%. Values are clamped to this range.
  • Pause/Resume enforcement: temporarily disables or restores microphone-volume locking.
  • Install autorun / Remove autorun: adds or removes a per-user startup entry.
  • Exit: quits the tray app.

Config file (for reference): %LocalAppData%\MicLockTray\config.json

Uninstall

  1. Tray menu → Remove autorun
  2. Tray menu → Exit
  3. Delete MicLockTray.exe and, optionally, %LocalAppData%\MicLockTray
