Scholar Citation Meta 1.8.0

Choose a tag to compare

@dillonma dillonma released this 15 Oct 22:33

Update: WordPress will offer this update on the Plugins screen if you're on 1.7.0 or later. Otherwise download scholar-citation-meta-1.8.0.zip below (not "Source code") and choose Replace current with uploaded.

New: translations

  • A Translations table in the Scholar citation metadata box, with one row per language: language code, translated title, PDF URL, link text, and an optional translated page.
  • [scholar_pdf lang="fr"] links to the French PDF using that row's link text, e.g. [scholar_pdf] · [scholar_pdf lang="fr" icon="0"] shows Download PDF · en français.
  • [scholar_title] / [scholar_title lang="fr"] show the original or translated title.
  • [scholar_translations] lists every translation with its title and link.
  • Translated PDFs in /articles/ or the Media Library get the same alias under the post's URL as the main PDF.
  • Links are marked with their language (lang, hreflang). Translated pages are announced in <head> as hreflang alternates.
  • [scholar_pdf] also accepts label and link, and a one-off url="https://…".

What the shortcodes show

With a French row (title "La machine à rente foncière", link text "en français"):

You type The page shows
[scholar_pdf] (PDF icon) Download PDF
[scholar_pdf lang="fr"] (PDF icon) en français, with the translated title on hover
[scholar_title lang="fr"] La machine à rente foncière, as plain text styled like the surrounding text
[scholar_title lang="fr"] — [scholar_pdf lang="fr"] La machine à rente foncière — (PDF icon) en français
[scholar_translations] A list with one line per language: the title, then its link

The Google Scholar tags still point only to the original PDF. See Translations in the README.

Install or update: download scholar-citation-meta-1.7.1.zip below (not "Source code"). If you're on 1.7.0, WordPress will offer this update on the Plugins screen.

  • Update checks now fall back to github.com when GitHub's API is rate-limited, which is common on shared hosting.

Scholar Citation Meta 1.7.0

Choose a tag to compare

@dillonma dillonma released this 13 Oct 16:05

First public release of Scholar Citation Meta.

Install: download scholar-citation-meta-1.7.0.zip below (not "Source code"), then in WordPress go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin. If an older copy is installed, choose Replace current with uploaded. Then go to Settings → Permalinks and click Save.

New in 1.7.0

  • The plugin now updates from this repository's GitHub Releases. Future versions show up on the WordPress Plugins and Updates screens like any other plugin.

Highlights so far

  • Google Scholar / Zotero citation_* meta tags generated from a DOI: Crossref first, then DataCite, then doi.org.
  • BibTeX box for items without a DOI, or to fill in missing fields such as pages.
  • The DOI field accepts publisher URLs and drops title slugs after the DOI.
  • PDFs in /articles/ or the Media Library are given an alias under each paper's URL, as Google Scholar requires, with a PHP fallback if the .htaccess rule is missing.
  • Shortcodes: [scholar_pdf] (with text, icon, class and url options) and [scholar_cite] (BibTeX/RIS downloads).

See the changelog for the full history.
