Sunset Riders Recomp — first public alpha

Experimental Windows x64 port using SNESRecomp and the shared recomp-ui launcher.

Download

Download sunsetriders-0.1.0-alpha-windows-x64.zip below.
SHA256SUMS.txt provides the download checksum.

Use the release ZIP, rather than GitHub's automatically generated source archives, for the launcher setup workflow.

Setup

  1. Extract the entire ZIP into a writable folder.
  2. Run SunsetRidersSNESRecomp.exe.
  3. Complete the portable build-tool setup if requested.
  4. Select your own compatible Sunset Riders (USA) SNES ROM.
  5. Choose Generate & rebuild and wait for local compilation.
  6. Select Play in the rebuilt launcher.

Initial setup requires internet access for tool and dependency downloads. Allow approximately 2 GB of free disk space during the build.

Supported ROM

  • Sunset Riders (USA), SNES, headerless image.
  • Size: 1,048,576 bytes.
  • CRC32: 52ada404.
  • SHA-256: e9c406d4f773697b9b671e7ddf2207c9d0ab242d7f23e502cdd453fbb264d392.

No ROM or generated game code is included. The setup pack generates and builds locally from the user's own lawfully obtained ROM.

Validation

  • Tested through the full campaign on Windows x64.
  • Normal life loss and Game Over behavior verified.
  • Video, audio, menus, character selection, and controller input verified.
  • Wireless Xbox Series X controller tested.
  • Extracted setup pack tested through tool setup, ROM selection, generation, rebuilding, and gameplay.

Testing on a separate Windows machine without development tools, multiplayer, and exhaustive character coverage remain pending.

Known issues

  • Minor character glitches during the introduction.
  • Incorrect fire rendering in the Dark Horse stage.
  • Incorrect dancers' animation in the saloon sequence after defeating the brothers.
  • Misplaced train-stage poles with apparently incorrect collision behavior; gameplay impact requires investigation.
  • Similar fire-rendering glitches in the final stage.
