Release list
v0.1.14
v0.1.13
- Database pages (Startups, Ideas, Tasks, Expenses and others) are now searchable by name
- The index rebuilds once after updating, about 3 minutes
v0.1.12
- Pages whose text is not on your Mac yet are filled in from Notion's own search; once you open them they join the local index
- Keeps the model's memory warm, so the first search after idle is fast (also after sleep)
v0.1.11
- Search now covers database properties such as Author, tags and status
- After the Mac wakes from sleep, the service reconnects to Notion and warms the model, so the first search is fast
v0.1.10
- Shorter README, plus CONTRIBUTING guide
- Removed the curl installer; install with
uvx notion-search
v0.1.9
- Results open at the exact block that matched, with Notion's blue highlight
- Fix duplicated installer lines in narrow Terminal windows
v0.1.8
Notion Search 0.1.8
Fixed: uninstall could hang
Uninstall waited on uv's shared cache lock, which other uv programs (for example an MCP server started with uv run) can hold for hours. That step is gone. Uninstall now takes about two seconds.
Update only does what is needed
On a working install, Update now shows one step, restarting the background service. It adds Downloading the model only if the model is missing, and Indexing pages only if the index layout changed.
Fewer macOS "background activity" notices
The service now starts through the notion-search script, so macOS names it "notion-search" and not "python". An update restarts an unchanged service in place instead of registering it again, which is what triggers the notice. macOS still shows it once for a new install. An app cannot turn it off.
Plainer wording
Rewritten text on the install, update, status and uninstall screens, and a short yes/no uninstall question.
Update
notion-searchChoose Update. If Update does not find this version, run:
uv tool install --force notion-search && notion-search installv0.1.7
Notion Search 0.1.7
Fixed: a stale uvx copy could downgrade you
If you ran uvx notion-search and uv reused an older cached copy, choosing Install or Update could reinstall that older version permanently. It now installs the newest release from PyPI, and Update always hands over to the installed copy.
Licence
Notion Search is now MIT licensed (see LICENSE). The PyPI page shows the licence.
Already installed?
Run notion-search (not uvx notion-search), then Update. If you are stuck on an older version, this fixes it in one go:
uv tool install --force notion-search && notion-search installv0.1.6
Notion Search 0.1.6
Uninstall removes everything
Uninstall in the menu now removes everything Notion Search put on your Mac, after one confirmation: the background service, the index, the model, the log, uv's cached copies and the notion-search command itself. notion-search uninstall --yes skips the question, and --keep-data removes only the service.
Running uvx notion-search again
If Notion Search is already installed, uvx notion-search now hands over to the installed copy at once, so you get the menu without waiting.
Smaller changes
notion-search statusshows the installed version.- The
Updatecommand refreshes uv's index first, so a release published a moment ago is found. - A clearer README (four numbered install steps, an Update section) and fuller PyPI details: classifiers and project links.
Install or update
uvx notion-searchAlready installed? Run notion-search, then Update.
v0.1.5
Notion Search 0.1.5
One command sets everything up:
uvx notion-searchOn the very first run it installs the program, downloads the model, indexes your pages and starts the background service, with no menu in between. After that, notion-search opens the menu.
Menu
- Only options that make sense are shown. Before anything is installed, or after the service alone was removed, the menu is short: Install, Remove (only if data is left over) and Quit.
- A wider label column, so names no longer run into their descriptions.
Already installed?
Run notion-search, then Update. It fetches this version, refreshes the service and rebuilds the index if needed.
