- Added reboot prompts when a kernel or desktop-session restart is actually required (Applying the VRAM ceiling remains immediate; rebooting afterward is optional.)
- Improved cleanup and package tracking.
- Fixed Remove everything so it detects supported VRAM-management packages already installed before the tool started tracking packages.
- Fixed package detection to distinguish real installed packages from dependency/provides names.
- On CachyOS,
plasma-foreground-boosteris now reported as the actual package and itsplasma-foreground-booster-dmemcgcapability is shown as a provided name rather than a second required package.
Linux VRAM Manager v0.1.0
Linux VRAM Manager v0.1.0
Initial experimental release of Linux VRAM Manager.
This release provides a simple menu-driven utility to:
- Install/enable supported DMEM/VRAM-management packages
- Configure a persistent
dmem.maxVRAM headroom ceiling - Choose the desired VRAM safety margin
- Detect AMD/Intel
vramand NVIDIAvidmemregions - Verify the active configuration
- Remove the custom VRAM ceiling and optionally remove the VRAM-management packages
The custom VRAM ceiling is an experimental workaround that leaves a configurable amount of VRAM unused instead of allowing app.slice to consume the entire reported VRAM capacity.
The project was developed with AI assistance. The Bash source is included in the repository for inspection, while the x86_64 executable is provided as a release asset.
Tested on CachyOS with an AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT.
