Attachments component #4482

I know the attachments option just came out, but, since we got modals, would be nice to have an attachments component — where you can upload your own image and send it to the bot. The way this component could be implemented is exclusivly in modals, otherwise it will cause problems with UX. The component might look like this:

I use modals as a bug report form and being able to directly upload log files, screenshots, or videos to be sent with the modal submission will drastically improve the user experience! |

Same! I use Trello, and have to request the users to upload the files to Trello after I automatically create a ticket. |

Yeah this idea is great. Maybe bots should also specify a minimum size of the image and the format of the image, because there are some things that require a specific image size. |

I’m working on a system where users can turn in Quest rewards. This is exactly what I want for users being able to show proof etc. |

I also would like this functionality. The requirement to use a slash command option makes the workflow of the bot awkward in many use cases. My current use case requires an admin workflow where uploading a file as a requirement is unknown until after using components to navigate to an optional state that needs the upload. A modal type works. However a button component of type attachment button that would pop up the file find dialog with an optional extension filter when pressed would work as well. |

I've been building a specialized profile bot for a server and having image uploads through a modal would be perfect for it |

As an interesting addition could have a choice between "file from device storage", "camera image", "screenshot", "canvas", etc. as an attachment |

This would be absolutely amazing if it could be supported. In a project I have it would be absolutely a major QoL improvement for uploading screenshots. |

This would be extremely useful. I'm making a bot that allows users to modify GFX templates with their own images and colors, but right now the users has to provide an image URL, which is an unnecessary hassle. |

This would be better for the user-experience because users won't have to provide an URL but can just upload an image. |

This could be abused to send excessively large files but could also improve security for the bot as they are no longer sending a request to an arbitrary URL |

I'd imagine that files get uploaded to the Discord CDN with the usual Discord file size limits, so the bot only receives the meta data in the interaction and can decide to download it or not. |

As suggested in the OP, it is already possible to receive arbitrary uploads from users by way of attachments with an application command option (type 11). However, whilst this feature was new when this thread was posted in 2022, it is certainly no longer the case. So the contention cannot be related to allowing user uploads, and it also cannot be related to feature infancy, so it is not clear to me the reason this has not yet been implemented... |

there's no reason it hasn't been implemented, it just hasn't been high enough priority to get built so far. |
