SayQL Community Edition v0.2.7

@dithzz dithzz released this 22 Oct 15:58

Free forever, for personal and commercial use.

What's new

Every supported database was tested against real servers: PostgreSQL 13–17, MySQL 5.7–8.4, MariaDB 10.6–11.4, SQL Server 2019 and 2022, and SQLite. This release fixes what that turned up.

  • MySQL 5.7 connects again. It couldn't connect at all before.
  • PostgreSQL: read-only logins now see primary keys, materialized views show up, and partitioned tables appear once (with the right row count) instead of once per partition.
  • Better AI answers for tables and columns with mixed case, spaces or reserved names: they're now quoted correctly in the SQL.
  • Fix with AI works on SQL Server, and PostgreSQL errors now include their detail and hint.
  • Results: MySQL zero dates and geometry display properly, and SQL Server columns without a name get a header.
  • Safer: a few more PostgreSQL and MySQL functions with lasting side effects now ask first. SHOW CREATE TABLE is allowed. A statement you confirm runs on its own connection, so a USE or SET can't leak into later queries.

See Database compatibility for the full results and the recommended read-only login for each database.

Already on an earlier version? Click Update to 0.2.7 in the status bar.

Early access: these builds aren't code-signed yet, so your computer asks you to confirm the first launch.

  • macOS: open the app once, then go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
  • Windows: on "Windows protected your PC", click More info → Run anyway.
  • Linux: use the .AppImage (make it executable), or install the .deb or .rpm. For MCP, use the .deb or .rpm.

SayQL Community Edition v0.2.6

@dithzz dithzz released this 22 Oct 13:12
c727ed2

Free forever, for personal and commercial use.

What's new

  • Voice input: click the mic in the Ask box and say your question. Speech is turned into text on your computer; audio never leaves it. The speech model (about 82 MB) downloads once, the first time you use it.
  • MCP, more useful: Claude, Cursor and other AI apps can now fill in a new connection for you to finish (you type the password in SayQL), open SQL or a saved script in a SayQL tab for you to review and run, page through results and export to CSV. Passwords and writes never go through MCP.

Safer

  • Stricter read-only check: SayQL reads each statement the way your database does (MySQL # comments and backslash escapes, Postgres $$ strings), so a write can't hide inside them. INTO OUTFILE, INTO DUMPFILE and side-effect functions now ask first, and MCP refuses them.
  • Saved connections are never erased: a damaged settings file is set aside instead of being overwritten, and saves happen in one step.
  • Privacy: values from your rows that a database quotes in an error message are masked before a failed query goes to your AI provider for fixing.
  • A strict Content Security Policy for the app window.

Already on an earlier version? Click Update to 0.2.6 in the status bar.

  • Security: updated the SQL Server driver, which fixes a high-severity issue in a TLS library it used.
  • Under the hood: newer database drivers, editor and icons.

Already on an earlier version? Click Update to 0.2.5 in the status bar.

Free forever, for personal and commercial use.

Already on an earlier version? Click Update to 0.2.4 in the status bar.

Early access: these builds aren't code-signed yet, so your computer asks you to confirm the first launch.

What's new

  • Slash commands: type / in the Ask box for /followup, /new, /explain, /fix and /improve.
  • Skills: save an instruction once, like /pii-safe = "Never select email, phone or address columns", and add it to any question.
  • Run selection: select part of the SQL and run only that. A selection that cuts a statement in half runs the whole statement, so a DELETE never runs without its WHERE.
  • Run scripts: several statements run one after another, each with its own results tab. Writes still ask first.
  • Setup guide on first launch: pick your AI, pick a database, ask a first question.
  • Send feedback from the status bar, as a pre-filled public GitHub issue.
  • Settings is now a full-window page.

Already on 0.1.0? Click Update to 0.2.0 in the status bar.

Early access: these builds aren't code-signed yet, so your computer asks you to confirm the first launch.

  • macOS: open the app once, then go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
  • Windows: on "Windows protected your PC", click More info → Run anyway.
