RetroArch One-Click Backup

A lightweight all-in-one utility for backing up, restoring, and applying recommended RetroArch settings on ArkOS-based handhelds.

Designed for simplicity, this script gives users a fast way to protect their RetroArch setup, recover from mistakes, or instantly apply a polished configuration with one button press.

What Gets Backed Up?

The script creates a full backup of important RetroArch files and folders for both 32-bit and 64-bit installs.

Backed Up Files

  • retroarch.cfg
  • retroarch-core-options.cfg

Backed Up Folders

  • config/
  • saves/
  • states/

Backup Location

All backups are stored in:

/roms/backup/RetroArch_Backup.zip

This includes separate folders for 32-bit and 64-bit data:

  • config/
  • config32/
  • saves/
  • saves32/
  • states/
  • states32/

Backup files are saved as:

  • retroarch.bak
  • retroarch32.bak
  • retroarch-core-options.bak
  • retroarch-core-options32.bak

One-Click Settings Applied

The One-Click Settings option updates both RetroArch installs with recommended defaults focused on usability and convenience.

Basic Usage

  1. Launch the script
  2. Choose one of the menu options:
  • Backup RetroArch Settings
  • Restore RetroArch Settings
  • Apply One-Click Settings
  1. That's it. Careful, it's literally one click. There are no confirmation dialogs.

No manual file management required.

Customization Friendly

This script includes Quick Reference Indexes at the top for easy personalization.

These indexes document valid values for:

  • menu_driver
  • aspect_ratio_index
  • input_menu_toggle_gamepad_combo
  • input_exit_emulator_gamepad_combo

This makes it simple to adjust the One-Click defaults without digging through external documentation.
