Question Desk 2.29.1
Changed
- The Branding tab's Languages panel is now Device Translation Language Choices. The old
heading read like the app's own language, which it is not — it is the set of languages a
participant's phone and the room screen can be read in, and the app's own language lives two
fields below it.
Question Desk 2.29.0
Added
- The app reads in Spanish and Korean. Every word staff and the stage see — the queue, the
Admin page, the Event Coordinator portal, the panelist view, the room screen's status lines,
every email and every message — now comes from one catalog rather than being written into the
code, and 972 of its 980 phrases are written in Spanish and Korean as well as English. Each
person picks their own
language next to their address on People; Branding → App language covers everyone else,
and a session or event can set a Room language for the screen at the front, since nobody is
signed in at a venue laptop. Anything not yet written in someone's language falls back to
English, so a half-finished translation never shows a blank screen. scripts/translate-strings.jsdrafts a new language for a person to read before it ships,
refusing any phrase that came back with a placeholder added, dropped or renamed. Adding another
language is one line inCONFIG.appLanguagesand a drafting pass — the settings, the pickers
and the tests pick it up from there.
Changed
- A page is now sent only the phrases it uses, not the whole catalog: the Admin page's boot data
is about half what it would otherwise be, and the room screen's is a fraction of it. - Two singular sentences that read wrong because they were glued together from pieces now read
properly: "Its 1 session is kept and moves to…" and "(1 session that hasn't ended)".
A third, "1 thing needs attention", is fixed in the weekly report. - The keyboard shortcuts in the queue find their buttons by name rather than by reading the
English off them, so J, N and P keep working in a queue that is not in English.
Note
- Topic labels stay in the facilitator's language whatever the app is read in. That is what lets
a Korean and a Spanish question about the same thing land in the same group, so a Spanish queue
shows Spanish around English labels on purpose. The CSV column names stay English too: they
name a column in the file being imported.
Question Desk 2.28.0
Added
- QR sheets can hand over the codes as images. Download QR images saves one PNG per
shareable-link session: the code with the session name under it and the event under that, so a
code dropped into a slide, a poster or someone else's document still says what it is for. The
files are named after both. The printed sheet is unchanged — it already names them above the
code.
Changed
- The event's "Email QA Facilitators" message carries only queue links. Each facilitator
gets the sessions they are running, each with its QA Facilitator queue link and nothing else;
whoever runs the room takes the room screen link from the Sessions tab. Who receives what is
unchanged: the list is built per session from that session's QA Facilitators, so nobody is
sent a session they are not running (a facilitator assigned to the event itself is a
facilitator for every session in it).
Question Desk 2.27.0
Added
- Question Desk for WordPress. The same Question Desk as a WordPress plugin, for
organizations that would rather run it on their own site. Both versions are supported:
neither replaces the other, and the pages, the participant-facing text, the CONFIG values and
the sessions CSV columns are generated from this app, so a fix to a page or to wording is one
change for both. It lives inwordpress/; see WORDPRESS.md and
wordpress/README.md. Nothing about the Apps Script app changes.
Changed
- The guest page (
docs/join) can serve either version. A copy hosted for the Apps Script
app names the deployment in the link, as before; a copy hosted for a WordPress Question Desk
names that site once in the page itself (data-site), and its links carry no site at all — so
a link can never make a guest page show some other website. - A room screen inside a guest page inside the PowerPoint add-in is heard again. The screen
now reports towindow.parentas well aswindow.top, and the guest page passes that on. The
add-in can only check the origin it framed, so without this it heard nothing from a guest page
hosted on another host and reloaded the slide every three minutes.
Question Desk 2.26.0
Changed
- The PowerPoint add-in shows any live web page, however the link is pasted. A link
copied from a browser's address bar without itshttps://(apnews.com) now works, and an
http://link is tried ashttps://, since a slide can only show secure pages. The setup
form leads with "any live web page" and takes plain text — its oldtype="url"field
silently refused bare domains. Question Desk session links are unchanged in every form
(public, domain-scoped and guest page), and still get the live QR handling. - A page that refuses to be framed is explained by name. Many sites (AP News, autismla.org
and most news sites) sendX-Frame-Optionsand simply stay blank inside a slide. While
editing, the note now names the site and suggests a screenshot or the site's own embed link.
Nothing an add-in can do about the header itself.
Added
- The add-in accepts a room screen link served by the WordPress version of Question Desk
(in progress on thewordpressbranch), and only the site actually on the slide may ask the
add-in to reload — Google's pages, or that site.
Question Desk 2.25.0
Changed
- Merged questions, reworked in the queue as a topic's "Read out" question. One strip
under the topic's heading shows the question to read aloud, with Edit, Rewrite with
Gemini and Remove. A topic without one (and with several questions) offers Write one
question to read out (Gemini) or Write it yourself. The heading keeps just Answer now,
Phones and ⋯. Progress and any error show in the same strip. - Translations are folded into one "Translations" line per topic (the topic label on
phones and the read-out question), open only when you want them.
Added
- Edit or remove a read-out question by hand. An edited question is translated into the
session's languages again (without softening it) for phones and the room screen.
Question Desk 2.24.1
Changed
- Question summaries go only to the Session Summary Email Recipients on the People tab.
A session's QA Facilitators are no longer added automatically, and the session form's
own recipient choice is gone (older sessions' choices are ignored), so the People tab is
the one place that decides. The session form shows who will get it. The three summary
recipient columns left the sessions CSV; older files still import (the columns are
ignored). Email summary can still send to anyone you type.
Question Desk 2.24.0
Added
- Email QA Facilitators, for a whole event (a button on each event in Admin). Each QA
Facilitator, including the event's own, gets one email with the room screen and queue
links for each of their sessions in the event, with scheduled times. Ended sessions are
left out. Asks before sending.
Changed
- Calmer question rows in the queue. Answer now is the one solid button; Phones,
Answered and Dismiss are quiet, and line up from row to row. - With Group automatically off, the queue doesn't talk about grouping: ungrouped
questions are simply "Questions", with no word-based sub-groups or "not grouped yet" notes.
With it on, word-based sub-groups appear only while grouping is actually failing, and a
slow run is mentioned once for the block instead of under every question.
Question Desk 2.23.0
Added
- The room screen can list the room's questions. A session option (Admin → session →
Room screen theme) and a switch on the QA Facilitator queue, List on the room screen.
It lists what participants' phones show, meaning topics and single questions a QA
Facilitator put on phones, with how many people asked or tapped Me too, most supported
first, in the session's languages. Up to six, never the one being answered (that's in the
banner), and nothing a facilitator hasn't reviewed. Off by default; the slide stays QR only.
Sessions CSV has a new column for it.
Question Desk 2.22.4
Fixed
- The QA Facilitator queue jumped on refreshes. After clicking a button, each refresh
that brought changes put focus back on that button and scrolled the page to it; new
questions above what you were reading also pushed it down. The queue now keeps whatever
question is at the top of the window exactly in place (tested in Chrome and Safari). - Topic boxes replayed their rise-in animation on every refresh. It now plays once, when
a topic first appears; a ⋯ menu kept open across a refresh doesn't re-animate either.
Changed
- Questions are translated into the session's languages as they're grouped, in the same
every-minute Gemini request. Show on phones and Answer now on a single question no longer
wait for a translation.
