v2.6 - Advanced PDF Chapter Detection

Highlights

  • Font-size based chapter detection (configurable 1.2x, 1.3x, 1.5x sensitivity)
  • Bold text detection for chapter headers
  • Multi-signal confidence scoring combining font size, text patterns, bold formatting, and position
  • Three-strategy false-positive filtering (bankruptcy context, paragraph boundaries, duplicates)
  • Page cleanup improvements (removes footers, page numbers, book titles)
  • Background threading prevents UI freezing on large PDFs
  • Responsive UI with real-time detection updates

Key Features

Font-Size Detection

  • Detects chapters marked only with larger fonts (no explicit text marker needed)
  • User-selectable sensitivity: Conservative (1.5x), Balanced (1.3x), Sensitive (1.2x)
  • Auto-detects when threshold changes

Smart False-Positive Filtering

  • Bankruptcy Context - Prevents "Chapter 11" in legal discussions from false detection
  • Paragraph Boundaries - Filters chapter markers found mid-paragraph
  • Duplicate Detection - Merges or removes duplicate chapter markers

Page Cleanup

  • Removes common page number formats ("- 1 -", "p.1", "THE BRIGADE 123", etc.)
  • Eliminates book title and footer artifacts
  • Optimized for performance without regex backtracking issues

UI Improvements

  • Background threading for PDF loading keeps UI responsive
  • Font sensitivity dropdown in Book Processing tab
  • Real-time chapter detection updates when threshold changes

Performance

  • PDF extraction: ~59s for 1.8MB files (background threaded)
  • Page cleanup: ~0.02s
  • Chapter detection: ~8-10s with all formatting signals
  • Total: ~68s with responsive UI
