Presets that Stamp keeps for you

Saving a preset asked where to put the file, and inserting one asked where to find it again.

  • Save preset asks for a name. That is all.
  • Insert preset lists what you have saved, with a search box and a Delete button.
  • A preset you place keeps its own name instead of arriving as "… copy".
  • The presets are ordinary files in Stamp's application data folder, so they can still be copied to another machine by hand.

The mouse wheel scrolls, it does not edit

Scrolling the properties panel used to change whatever the pointer passed over — a depth here, a rotation there, with nothing said about it.

A field, drop-down or slider now answers the wheel only after you click into it or tab to it. Everything else scrolls as it should, in the panel, the ribbon and every dialog.

A stamp on a mesh part that actually reaches the surface

A colour 3MF could open in a slicer with no stamp on it and one filament instead of three, after an export warning that the colour split had failed.

On a mesh part Stamp fits a flat plane through the triangles of the face you click, and that fitted plane can sit a fraction of a millimetre inside the material. The cut started just behind it, which was not far enough to break through, so it hollowed out a sealed bubble under a skin a few microns thick: nothing to see in the slicer, nothing to print, and no open pocket for a colour body to fill.

  • A cut onto a fitted surface now clears it by 0.05 mm, so it always breaks the surface. The extra reach is above the face, in material the cut throws away.
  • A shape with a hollow in it is now subtracted whole. Subtracting the hollow on its own was what made the export report that the boolean had removed everything, and drop the artwork from the file.

Checked by reading an exported file back with lib3mf: the base plus both colour bodies, and all three colours in the file.

Artwork that stays on the part

Placed artwork could go missing from the 3D view: there for a moment, gone after a click or a turn of the view. The geometry was always being cut — only the drawing was wrong.

  • Every mark you have placed is drawn on the part, not just the one you have selected.
  • Artwork is drawn in front of the face it sits on. It used to share that face's depth exactly, which a mesh part usually won, so a 3MF or STL was where it went missing most.
  • Turning on "Show the export" hides the overlays instead of leaving them beside the transformed part.

Turn the preview off below the viewport to see the bare result, as before.

For developers

tools/shot.py photographs the real 3D view from a window parked off every screen, so a screenshot never takes the pointer or keyboard from whoever is using the machine, and can capture several angles in one run.

Follow-up to 1.6.2's new 3MF reader.

  • A 3MF whose build places an object stored in another model file inside the package now opens; 1.6.2 refused it.
  • Stamp stops reading a 3MF that expands past 1 GB for one file or 2 GB in total, so a crafted file cannot use up memory.
  • Units in nested model files are read the way lib3mf, the reference 3MF library, reads them.

3MF files from slicers open correctly

A Bambu Studio or Orca project could open in Stamp as open, non-watertight meshes even though the slicer showed closed solids. Those slicers store each object in its own file and point to it from the main model. The library Stamp used re-read that file every time it was referenced, so a part placed six times arrived as six stacked copies in each spot.

Stamp now reads 3MF files itself:

  • Each placed object comes in once, where the file puts it, including mirrored and nested placements.
  • Parts keep the names they have in Bambu Studio, Orca or PrusaSlicer.
  • Modifier, negative and support-blocker volumes are left out, since they are not geometry.
  • A file that references a missing object says which one.
  • Slicer projects import several times faster (9.4 s to 0.9 s on the file that showed the bug).

The fixes from the 1.6.1 review, which was never published on its own: true cylinder wraps, draft on through-all cuts, multi-part 3MF rebuilds, SVG sizing, and prompts before discarding unsaved work. See PROGRESS.md for the full list.

Everything from both lines of development, in one build.

The ribbon

Thirty commands did not fit one toolbar. Seventeen of them ended up behind an overflow chevron that shut again at every layout pass, and Export STEP — which had no shortcut either — had no working path at all.

Commands now sit on Home, Place, Export and View tabs, grouped by what they are for. The icons are drawn on one grid at one stroke weight and follow your light or dark theme, replacing emoji that rendered in colour on one machine and as a hex box on the next. Save, undo and redo also sit on a quick-access bar level with the menus. Ctrl+F1 collapses the ribbon and gives the height back to the 3D view.

Whole-part mirror and scale, on the ribbon

Reflect the part across a plane, or scale it to a finished size, applied on the way out with the stamps going along. The three planes sit under one drop-down in the Transform group, because a part can be mirrored across two at once. Show the export previews the result before you export it — including an assembly drawn part by part.

Large parts open in seconds instead of a minute

OpenCascade holds the GIL for the whole of every call, so no worker thread could keep the window alive during an import. The read now runs in a second process. On an 81,920-face part the window was frozen for 66 seconds; it is now 3, under a progress dialog naming the phase, which can be cancelled.

Before After
Window frozen while opening 66 s 3 s
Rebuild redisplay 3.3 s 10 ms
Change selection mode 2.2 s 9 ms

Assemblies

A multi-part 3MF is no longer flattened into one mesh on the way in. The parts survive, so a stamp can go on one of them, the rest can be hidden, and one part can be exported on its own. Colours already in the file are kept.

Artwork colour components

An SVG is grouped by fill colour, so one piece of a drawing can be singled out and printed in a colour of its own. Resolving the pieces separately is also what stopped a filled backdrop swallowing the artwork in front of it.

It updates itself

Stamp checks the release feed, verifies the signed manifest and the installer hash against a pinned public key, and offers the update in a bar under the ribbon. A forged manifest, a tampered installer and a downgrade are each refused.

Stamp 1.1.1

@dmoore-dwmmholdings dmoore-dwmmholdings released this 27 Aug 04:06

Stamp 1.1.0 did not open on Windows. This release fixes that. If you are on Windows, download Stamp-1.1.1-Setup.exe below rather than the 1.1.0 installer.

Fixed

  • Stamp would not start on Windows. The 3D viewer failed to bind its window and threw an endless stack of error boxes at launch. A viewer that cannot start now reports the reason once and leaves the rest of the app working.
  • The 3D background was light grey in the otherwise dark window. It is the dark slate it was meant to be.
  • Units were cut off in the properties panel — 0.00 mr instead of 0.00 mm, 36.00 m instead of 36.00 mm, 100.00 ' instead of 100.00 %. Every field now has room for its unit.
  • Clicks missed on a scaled display. At the 125% and 150% Windows display settings, a click landed roughly a third of the way up and to the left of the cursor, so picking a face meant aiming off-target. Clicks land where you point now, at any scaling.
  • Placing a stamp left the status bar still asking you to click a face to place it.

Added

  • A menu bar. Export STEP, Export STL, Export 3MF, Batch stamp and Undo/Redo were previously reachable only through the toolbar's overflow chevron, which closes itself as the window lays out — so at an ordinary window size there was no dependable way to reach Export at all. Every command now has a home under File, Edit, Insert, Export, View or Help. The toolbar is unchanged.

Note

The properties panel is wider, so the smallest usable window is now about 982 px across instead of 862.

Windows: run Stamp-1.1.1-Setup.exe. It installs for the current user, so no administrator password is needed.
macOS: open the DMG matching your Mac (arm64 for Apple silicon, x86_64 for Intel) and drag Stamp onto Applications. The app is not notarized, so macOS may ask you to Control-click it and choose Open the first time.

Replace the part without replacing the artwork, and stop the 3MF export forcing its colors on you.

Download Stamp-0.3.0-Setup.exe below. stamp-color-sample.3mf is a small two-color test file.

Replace part

A part gets revised, and the stamps on it should not have to be placed again. Replace part in the toolbar swaps in the newer file and re-resolves every stamp against the new geometry — anchors were always stored as geometry plus intent rather than face numbers, so moved holes, a thicker plate, or new features elsewhere don't disturb the artwork.

Afterwards it reports what became of each stamp:

  • kept — the face is where it was
  • moved — it followed the face it sits on, and by how much. A plate that gets 4 mm thicker carries its engraving up with the top face
  • lost — nothing on the new part matches. The stamp keeps everything it had and is flagged so you can pick a face again. Nothing is ever deleted

If the newer file was exported from a different origin, Stamp finds the offset between the two parts and moves the artwork with it. Mesh parts have no faces to match against, so their anchors are re-fitted to the new mesh instead. The whole thing is one undo away.

Known limit: a part that has been rescaled (a model switched from millimetres to inches, say) is not handled — the centers align and then every face mismatches.

3MF colors no longer arrive uninvited

Bambu Studio creates a new filament for every color string it doesn't already recognise, so the old export defaults turned up as white and red filaments sitting next to the ones actually loaded, and had to be undone by hand every time.

Now the colors are remembered between exports, so setting them to the filaments you print with is a one-time job, and the defaults are a dark base with gold artwork rather than white and red.

There is also a checkbox to write no colors at all. The file then carries no color data, no slicer asks anything on the way in, and the parts arrive separate and named so you can pick the filament for each one yourself — exactly like any other 3MF you open.

289 tests pass and the lint tool is clean.
