v2.16.0
Chat with your documentation — a grounded AI assistant, built in
Until now Documan made your docs readable by AI tools (MCP, raw Markdown, llms.txt). v2.16.0 makes them answerable: an optional AI agentic web chat lives in your docs site, so visitors — developers and non-technical readers alike — can ask a question in plain language, in their own language, and get a direct answer grounded in your pages.
- AI agentic web chat. A lead agent works over the same documentation tools your MCP server exposes — it searches, reads the relevant pages, and answers, streaming its reasoning and results live (NDJSON event stream) into a chat UI built into the docs site.
- Grounded answers with verified citations. The assistant may only cite pages it actually read, and citation titles come from the server — never the model — so it can't invent sources. Hidden and unpublished pages are never served.
- Parallel research sub-agents. Broad, multi-part questions fan out to several research agents running in parallel, then fan back in as one grounded answer.
- Configurable LLM & embedding endpoints. New
DOCUMAN_CHAT_ANTHROPIC_BASE_URLandDOCUMAN_OPENAI_BASE_URLlet you route chat and embeddings through a proxy, gateway, or your own cloud (AWS Bedrock, Google Vertex AI, Microsoft Foundry, or a self-hosted compatible endpoint). Both default to the public APIs. - Operator controls. A custom system prompt, per-role model/effort config, per-IP rate limiting, a per-run token budget, and an aggregate daily token kill-switch — safe defaults for a public, anonymous endpoint.
The assistant is off by default and uses its own Anthropic API key, fully independent of the OpenAI key used for embeddings. Enable it with DOCUMAN_CHAT_ENABLED=true plus the key and a default model.
Also in this release
- New Configuration docs section (
/configuration) — environment variables regrouped into General, Semantic search, and AI chat, each cross-linked. (The old/getting-started/configurationURL is retired.) - Go 1.26 toolchain across build, CI, and Docker images.
