Welcome to the ABQ Community Commons. Nowadays, it seems that the only way to be in touch with what's going on in our community around us is to engage with apps or platforms that were designed to take ever more of our time and attention. Ironically, the algorithms that are designed to seem increasingly personalized couldn't be farther away from what they're trying to achieve. These apps make us lonelier and more disparate than ever. We've had quite enough of data-hungry mega-corporations stealing our time, attention, and personal information. In the modern age, we also recognize that data sovereignty is a real concern, and it seems increasingly impossible to engage with normal society without our data being bought and sold (have you read the terms and conditions on pretty much any app or service recently? You cannot engage with these apps without your data being sold).
We seek here to create a new, community-led platform to break away from this vicious cycle. The whole point of the Community Commons is to have a place that you can turn to to find out what's going on around you. The page should function somewhat like a static corkboard. There are no replies, no likes, nothing like that.
