@dohmansfi dohmansfi released this 19 Oct 16:27

First public release of Norma, a macOS command-line tool for measuring and normalising audio loudness.

Features

  • Measure integrated loudness, true peak and loudness range.
  • Normalise files or folders to a chosen loudness target and true-peak ceiling. Defaults: −16 LUFS and −1 dBTP.
  • Support WAV, FLAC, ALAC, AIFF, MP3 and AAC, with mono and stereo audio.
  • Preserve or edit metadata and artwork using command-line options, CSV/JSON manifests or filename patterns.
  • Preview changes, verify outputs and export CSV or JSON reports.
  • Write new copies without modifying the original audio files. Norma never opens or imports into your Music library.

Requirements and installation

Requires macOS, Python 3.11+, FFmpeg and a matching ffprobe. FFmpeg is not bundled.

See the repository README for installation instructions. After installation, run norma --version and norma doctor.

Known limitations

  • Apple Music 1.5.6.11 ignored the requested metadata in both tested WAV variants, despite the tags being present. This remains unresolved.
  • Some low-sample-rate MP3 modes and demanding dynamic-processing cases have restrictions or may fail verification.
  • Unsupported metadata is reported as a loss.
  • Finder Quick Actions are not included.

See the README for the full limitations.
