To use git in Redhawk, you will need to set up an ssh key for GitHub. You can do this as follows :
(redhawk) $ cd
(redhawk) $ mkdir .ssh # ignore any errors if you already have this directory
(redhawk) $ cd .ssh
(redhawk ~/.ssh) $ ssh-keygen -t rsa
Enter file in which to save the key (/home/donnacalhoun/.ssh/id_rsa):
.... # <hit enter several times>
If you have previously set up an ssh key to log into Redhawk, you may already have a file with the default name id_rsa.pub. In this case, you will have to provide a new name, e.g. id_rsa_redhawk. Hit enter a few more times, and you should have a private/public key pair.
Then
(redhawk ~/.ssh) $ more id_rsa_redhawk.pub
Copy this contents this file to the clipboard. Then, visit this site to add an ssh key to your GitHub site. NOTE If you do not already have a GitHub account, you will need to create one.
If you have two ssh keys (i.e. one to log into Redhawk, and now one to use with GitHub), you may need to create an ssh configuration file to indicate which key goes with GitHub.
In the /.ssh directory, create file config with the following lines.
# file: ~/.ssh/config
# github Redhawk
Host github
HostName github.com
User git
IdentityFile ~/.ssh/id_rsa_redhawk
You should then be set up to use git to fetch from the class repository.
