v0.5.0
A shark joins the dog.
- shark: a shark patrols the open sea through a day and night that keep real time. It cruises, follows passing rays and turtles, stalks a school from below and strikes, glides with its fin cutting the surface, and rests on the sand at night. Remoras and pilot fish ride along, and after dark the plankton glows in its wake while lanternfish rise.
oxiper -s shark - Four species, every sprite drawn by hand: a great white in a kelp forest, and a hammerhead, a tiger shark and a whale shark (which only filter-feeds) in warm coral seas. The tail beats through foreshortened frames, the body tilts as it climbs and dives, and turns pass through a three-quarter view and a head-on view.
-o shark.kind=hammerhead, orrandom. - Options:
zoomfrom the whole sea (0) to a close-up (6),dayfor the length of a day, fishfor how crowded the schools are, raysfor the light shafts and caustics, andwater = falseto keep translucent terminals see-through.

v0.4.0
Four new scenes, a couple of surprises, and a speed control that leaves the clock alone.
- dog, after tanim: a dog runs, naps and chases butterflies in a meadow as the day goes by.
oxiper -s dog - fireworks, after tanim: rockets bursting into sparks over a city skyline.
oxiper -s fireworks - metaballs, after tanim: glossy blobs merging like drops of gel.
oxiper -s metaballs -t synthwave - hollywood, after Dustin Kirkland's hollywood: tiled panes that keep re-splitting, 19 widgets (hex dumps, packet sniffers, kernel panics, radar, satellite tracking, ACCESS DENIED, ssh-keygen randomart, code…) and about ten times the technobabble.
babblegoes from 0 (plain logs) to 10.oxiper -s hollywood - Easter eggs. Every so often, about once an hour and never in the first minute, sl's steam locomotive (sometimes with its accident) or the duck from duckpond.sh crosses whatever scene is playing and is gone within 30 seconds. They never appear in a playlist.
eggs = "none"turns them off,egg_ratesets how often they come, and E calls one right away. - Speed is only speed.
speed, a scene'space,--speedand the + - keys now change only how fast things move. Clocks keep real time: at a tenth of the speed the aquarium still changes biome every five minutes, its day still lasts fifteen, a grown bonsai still waits itswaitand Nyan Cat's counter still counts real seconds. - Painted water.
-o aquarium.water=deeppaints the sea with a gradient, slow shafts of light and sandy dunes, after tanim's aquarium. The default stays clear, so translucent terminals stay see-through.

v0.3.0
The aquarium, drawn again by hand in Unicode.
- Every sprite redrawn. All 612 fish, creatures, plants, props and passers-by beyond
biome = "classic"use box-drawing lines, block shading, geometric shapes and braille. They are still plain text, one cell per character, with no emoji. Most have several frames of animation: swishing tails, beating ray wings, pulsing jellyfish, flickering candles. - asciiquarium's cast, twinned. The shark, whale, ship, sea monster, ducks, swan, dolphins, fishhook, bubbles, splat and the water's surface have Unicode versions of the same size for the biomes.
biome = "classic"is still asciiquarium, exactly, ASCII and all. - Sky and floor. The sun has rays, the moon has phases, clouds dim at night, the stars twinkle and rain slants with the wind. The sand, the marine snow and the Día de Muertos petals and candles are drawn in Unicode too.
- Oversized creatures and props come more rarely to small terminals.

v0.2.1
A calmer, roomier aquarium.
- Fewer creatures. About as many as asciiquarium: fewer groups, fewer crawlers on the floor, and schools at half their size.
-o aquarium.fish=1.5brings more back. - Sizes that fit the screen. Big creatures, plants, props and passers-by come rarely to small terminals and as usual to big ones, so an 80x24 window is not filled by one shark.
- Six fishing boats. A panga, a shrimp trawler, a purse seiner, a sport-fishing boat, a lobster boat and a rowboat angler. They lower lines or drag nets and catch fish.
- Migrations only pick swimmers that actually travel.

v0.2.0
The aquarium grows far beyond asciiquarium. biome = "classic" is still asciiquarium, exactly.
Seven biomes
Coral reef, open ocean, kelp forest, the deep sea, rivers and lakes, polar seas and a home tank, with 281 fish, 93 other creatures, 85 plants and corals, 69 props and 78 passers-by, all in asciiquarium's drawing style. Fish swim in schools that keep formation, others dart, drift, hover or crawl along the sand, and the sea moves on to another biome every few minutes. oxiper list species names them all.
Everything reacts to everything
- Predators hunt smaller fish, and schools scatter and regroup.
- Shy fish hide behind corals and wrecks, octopuses squirt ink, pufferfish puff up, and jellyfish and lionfish sting.
- Clownfish keep to their anemones and morays to their caves. Remoras ride with whale sharks, and the curious come over to look at divers.
- Pelicans and gannets plunge in for a fish, trawlers drag nets, anglers lower a line, orcas take a bite, and crabs clean up the scraps.
Day, night and weather
A sun, moon and stars over the water. At night the colors dim, nocturnal fish come out and glowing creatures light up. A current bends the plants and carries the bubbles, storms bring rain and lightning, and dim creatures swim far behind the plants.
Now and then
Feeding time, plankton blooms, bait balls, migrations, whale pods, and very rarely a legend. From October 28 to November 3 it is Día de Muertos: cempasúchil petals, candles, calavera fish, alebrijes, an ofrenda and a trajinera (season = "muertos" brings them any day).
New aquarium options
biome, biome_time, species, plants, decor, visitors, schools, floor, snow, interactions, day_length, depth, current, weather, events and season. See the README for details.
