First public release of Echo — free, local, privacy-first voice dictation for macOS.
Install
- Download Echo_0.1.0_universal.dmg below (works on Apple Silicon and Intel).
- Drag Echo to Applications and launch it from the menu bar.
- This build isn't notarized yet, so on first open right-click Echo.app → Open (or run
xattr -cr /Applications/Echo.app). - The onboarding wizard walks you through microphone/accessibility permissions and speech-to-text setup.

- Hold or tap a hotkey, speak, and refined text lands at your cursor in any app
- Local Whisper transcription by default — or Groq, Deepgram, OpenAI, and macOS Speech
- LLM cleanup with vocabulary learning, per-app profiles, tones, and voice commands
- Live transcription overlay, instant insert, undo, and dictation history
Echo checks this repository for updates automatically once installed.
