What's new in v0.2.0 — Notebooks, Themes, Desktop & More
A major update to Dotstell. New organisation tools, six new themes, keyboard shortcuts, security hardening, and a wave of UX improvements.
🗂️ Notebooks & Note Organisation
- Notebooks sidebar — organise notes into named collections, always in reach
- Drag to reorder — arrange notebooks in any order
- Pin notes — pin important notes to the top of any notebook
- Note tabs — open multiple notes at once; tabs persist across refresh
- Middle-click to close tabs; right-click for tab context menu
- Unsaved changes dot on active tab
🎨 Themes — now 12 total
Six new themes added:
- Dotstell Light — brand-native light theme with a subtle purple tint
- Pure Light — zero-distraction pure white canvas for deep focus writing
- Catppuccin Latte — warm light theme from the Catppuccin palette
- Rosé Pine Dawn — soft warm tones from the Rosé Pine palette
- Gruvbox Light — warm retro light theme
- Catppuccin Mocha — renamed from Catppuccin for clarity
Theme picker now scrolls, stays open after selection, and positions itself based on available screen space.
✍️ Editor & Notes
- Export note as Markdown — download any note as a
.mdfile in one click - Word count + read time — live count shown below the editor
- Full-text search — note search now covers content, not just titles
- Alt+N creates a new note in the browser (Ctrl+N works in the desktop app)
- Real-time title and tag updates reflected in the sidebar without a page refresh
- Sub-notes — nest notes under a parent note for hierarchical organisation
🔒 Security Hardening
- Fixed PATCH mass-assignment across all API routes — only whitelisted fields accepted
- Fixed SSRF, auth middleware gaps, and injection surface issues
- Rate limiting added on all POST and PATCH routes
- Error messages sanitised — internal details no longer leak to clients
⌨️ Keyboard Shortcuts
- Ctrl+K — universal command palette
- Ctrl+N / Alt+N — new note
- Ctrl+B — toggle sidebar
🐛 UX Fixes
- Toolbar no longer overlaps editor on 13–15" laptop screens
- Context menu pin and delete actions now fire correctly
- Theme picker opens upward when near the bottom of the screen
- Ctrl+K bookmark and task navigation fixed
- Sidebar blink on load resolved
