OpenDrift v1.0.8 focuses on gyro phase delay, correction authority, and
trackside control of the gain channel. It contains all controller and interface
changes made after v1.0.7c.
Highlights
- Selectable QMI8658 gyro LPF: original
24 Hz, lower-latency120 Hz, or
hardware LPFOff. Smoothing 0.00is now a true software-filter bypass.- Gyro Gain supports

These fields show whether an entry or transition was limited by Max Correction
or by the final available steering range.
Test guidance
When comparing filter modes, keep the rest of the tune unchanged and use a
clear stationary pause between runs. Start with the original 24 Hz mode before
trying 120 Hz or Off. A wider bandwidth can require Gain and Anti Wobble to be
retuned.

v1.0.7c makes steering setup match what drivers expect: the endpoint page now
defines the servo's actual physical left, center, and right positions, while
Max Correction independently selects how much of that calibrated range the
gyro may use.
Physical servo endpoints
- Physical Endpoints captures the servo's actual PWM output at safe full left,
center, and safe full right. - The saved asymmetric endpoint map is the final hard limit for both driver and
gyro movement. - AMOLED and deprecated Round compatibility builds use the same dedicated
red/green endpoint page. - CRSF users can capture or reset the same endpoints from
OpenDrift.lua; the
radio and display remain synchronized. - The associated receiver position is retained internally so driver steering
still reaches exactly the physical endpoint that was captured.
Max Correction and Steering Travel
- Max Correction is now
0-100%of calibrated physical steering travel. 100%lets gyro correction reach a physical endpoint from center;50%
permits half of the calibrated range.- Steering Travel scales driver input only and no longer reduces gyro authority.
- Existing Max Correction values migrate automatically from the old +/-500 us
scale: for example,250becomes50%and370becomes74%.
Upgrade notes
- Normal updates retain the active tune and profiles when staying on the same
PWM or CRSF build. Do not erase flash during a normal update. - v1.0.7b receiver-range captures are intentionally invalidated because they
cannot safely be interpreted as physical servo limits. Capture left, center,
and right once after upgrading. - Changing Servo Reverse, Servo Center, or Servo Travel clears the physical
endpoints because those controls alter the underlying output map. - The blackbox column is now named
max_corr_pctto make its units explicit.

OpenDrift.lua
AMOLED remains the primary OpenDrift hardware target. Round builds are supplied
for existing installations and testing.

consistent across every supported control surface.
Steering calibration
- Adds a dedicated Waveshare AMOLED Steering Calibration page.
- Uses large full-left, center, and full-right capture buttons.
- Shows uncaptured positions in red and confirmed positions in green.
- Reports missing receiver signal and invalid capture geometry directly on
the display. - Normalizes left/right pulse order so reversed transmitter channels work.
- Persists calibration completion and captured positions across restarts.
EdgeTX and CRSF

OpenDrift v1.0.7 is the track-validated Anti Wobble release. The remaining approximately 3 Hz closed-loop wheel oscillation is now isolated with a narrow phase-aware dynamic notch instead of broad or event-gated damping.
Anti Wobble
- Hunt Strength is now named Anti Wobble everywhere users tune it.
- The default remains
50; existing saved tunes and profiles are preserved. 0bypasses the notch and100applies its maximum depth.- Start at
50. Lower Gain and verify the servo/chassis first; only then raise Anti Wobble in steps of10if a repeating mid-drift oscillation remains. - Lower Anti Wobble if steering begins to feel soft or unnatural.
The notch starts near 3.2 Hz, tracks the measured resonance between 2.5 and 3.6 Hz during suitable settled conditions, retains a shallow guard through entries and transitions, and blends smoothly to full settled depth. It preserves slow chassis yaw and useful correction outside the wobble band.
Track validation
- Settled-drift residual average fell 22% between the final development comparison logs.
- Strong settled disturbances fell 37% and settled hunt-latch activity fell 48%.
- The final P-tile test was validated by the project driver, a newer driver, and an experienced driver who immediately drove the car at full pace.
Response and reliability
- Transition Speed now follows the complete direction-change envelope and tapers optional prediction through yaw reversal.
- CRSF startup is deferred until display, IMU, UI, and shared resources are ready.
- AMOLED reset sequencing and power-up settling are hardened.
- WiFi auto-off now starts from the last client disconnect.
- AMOLED MAX LEFT, CENTER, and MAX RIGHT calibration controls have larger visual and touch targets.
Blackbox
- Adds notch residual, removed correction, energy envelope, latch, consistent-cycle count, and tracked center-frequency telemetry.
- Renames the saved setting column from
hunt_strengthtoanti_wobble. - Logging remains a non-blocking 4 MB circular PSRAM buffer; download the CSV before removing power.

OpenDrift v1.0.6
OpenDrift v1.0.6 rolls the latest track-tested response work into the public AMOLED builds and adds a safe selectable 250/333 Hz control and steering-servo rate.
Control response
- Adds bounded automatic hunt suppression for repeated wheel oscillation during settled, sustained drifts.
- Reduces correction authority briefly during deliberate transitions to limit snap and overshoot without weakening settled-drift support.
- Adds a longer throttle-lift prediction envelope so off-throttle chassis load changes remain predictable.
- Logs hunt suppression, detected hunt frequency, transition authority, and throttle-lift blend for later blackbox analysis.
Selectable control and servo rate
- 250 Hz remains the default and is recommended for broad digital-servo compatibility.
- 333 Hz is available for fast servos whose manufacturer explicitly supports 333 Hz operation.
- The choice controls both the OpenDrift control task and steering-servo PWM rate.
- The setting is available from the AMOLED System page, web configurator, and CRSF/EdgeTX tool.
- Restart OpenDrift after changing the rate.
Do not select 333 Hz based only on servo speed. An unsupported update rate can cause buzzing, heat, erratic steering, or servo damage.

Use .update.bin only with a firmware-update workflow that writes the application partition. The browser installer at opendriftrc.com/flash automatically selects the correct factory image.

OpenDrift v1.0.5 - Open Beta
OpenDrift v1.0.5 replaces the original internal-flash blackbox flow with a fast PSRAM circular logger. This removes filesystem writes from the driving path, prevents blackbox flushing from locking the controller, and substantially increases useful recording time.
Blackbox changes
- Records compact binary samples into a 4 MB PSRAM circular buffer at 20 Hz.
- Holds approximately 22,310 samples, or about 18 minutes and 35 seconds of data.
- Continues recording when full by replacing the oldest samples first.
- Converts records to CSV only when Download CSV is selected in the web configurator.
- Adds live sample count, capacity, duration, and overwrite status to the web interface.
- Adds Clear RAM Log for starting a clean test session.
- Removes the old internal-flash flush and storage-full behaviour from the control loop.
Important logging note
The v1.0.5 blackbox buffer is stored in volatile PSRAM. Download the CSV before resetting or powering off OpenDrift; a reset or loss of power clears the current recording.

Gain synchronization and interface consistency update. Channel 3 is now the authoritative live gain whenever its signal is active; the AMOLED Drive page, web configurator, CRSF telemetry, and EdgeTX tool all follow the same active value. The Lua tool includes a CH3 override notice and faster live-gain polling. Includes official Waveshare AMOLED 1.64 V1/V2 PWM and CRSF images. The Waveshare round target remains frozen at v1.0.2.

OpenDrift 1.0.2
OpenDrift 1.0.2 adds separate Waveshare ESP32-S3 Touch AMOLED 1.64 V1 and V2 firmware.
V1 has its version silkscreen at the top of the PCB. V2 has it beside the right-side pin headers. The firmware is not interchangeable.
V2 uses LCD_CS GPIO46 and routes OpenDrift signals away from the board's new GPIO17/18 interrupt connections. Select the exact PCB revision in the web flasher.
OpenDrift 1.0.1
OpenDrift 1.0.1 improves startup reliability across the Waveshare AMOLED PWM and CRSF builds.
Highlights:
- retries AMOLED, IMU, and touch initialization during cold boot
- recovers a stuck shared I2C bus between attempts
- allows the gyro to continue safely when touch is unavailable
- keeps servo and ESC outputs detached until critical startup checks complete
- reports ESP32 reset reasons and mirrors verbose boot diagnostics to serial
