Force App 0.1.36 (2026-10-08)

New

  • Settings > Logs colours each line by type (errors, warnings, network, app, recording) and has a Type filter next to Level.
  • Record page: when the cut detector doesn't pick up the start of a cut, a "Start FRM now" button on the FRM panel starts the live FRM from that moment. The capture notes whether the start was detected or set by hand.
  • Record page: the pre-flight checklist warns when the saved NI-DAQ channels name ports that aren't on the connected hardware (a module swapped or unplugged) and offers "Re-assign channels".
  • Windows notifications when an update is ready: while the app is in the background, and once a day or at sign-in while the app is closed. Turn the second one off in Settings > About.

Improved

  • cuts too long for a normal .mat file (about 6 minutes at 51.2 kHz) are now saved as a MATLAB v7.3 .mat, so they upload with their .mat and can be baked. MATLAB opens it with load() as usual.
  • when an update has downloaded, the app shows its own "Restart and update" card in the corner instead of a Windows dialog. It never appears on the sign-in page, never takes focus from what you are typing, and waits until a recording has finished.
  • Figure, Lite and Full on the Plot page show the same loading screen.
  • moving the mouse over a force chart on the Plot page is smoother on long cuts.

Fixed

  • after a finished cut, Start reused the previous cut's sequence number, Cut ID, chips and new-edge flag unless New was pressed first. Start now reads "Start next cut" and moves those fields on by itself; New is now "Clear for next cut".
  • changes made inside a live pop-out (plot mode, channels, window, colour map) were forgotten when the app was restarted.

Rigs pick this up from the d1-server update feed within about ten minutes.

Force App 0.1.35 (2026-10-08)

New

  • Record page: a button next to Reset layout moves the Recording & Metadata panel to the other side of the page.
  • Settings > About and the update prompt group the release notes into New, Improved and Fixed.

Improved

  • the live FFT has about four times as many frequency points, and narrow peaks (tooth-pass, harmonics) are kept at full height instead of falling between points.
  • the RPM panel's curve scales to the recent RPM, so a slow cut no longer reads as a flat line under a high target.
  • Settings > Backup fills in the lab's backup server address as a suggestion. It is only saved when you save with backups turned on.

Fixed

  • saving a cut longer than about 6 minutes to the database failed with "directus_files_id can't be null". Long cuts (too big for a .mat file) now link with their trace and crop, and the message no longer claims both files were uploaded.
  • a crop you set in the final summary was lost if the upload failed. It is now kept with the capture, shown on its local Plot page and sent when you retry the upload.
  • after visiting another page, the software force alarm, stop-on-trip and remembering the Record setup stopped working until the app was restarted.
  • the live plot showed a flat line after you left the Record page during a cut. The recording keeps streaming while you are away, a real gap in the live data shows as "no live data", and a cut that ends while you are away offers to save when you come back.
  • plots could come back blank after the window was minimised or hidden, and the force panel flipped between the whole cut and the last few seconds when the save dialog opened.
  • live pop-out windows could open off-screen (after a monitor was unplugged or the window was minimised) and could not be reached from the taskbar.
  • on the Plot page, Bake is disabled for a cut uploaded without a .mat file, which it would have marked as failed.
  • with the NI-DAQ, the live plot and the force alarm worked in volts instead of newtons, so live forces read 10 to 20 times too low and the alarm could not trip. Live values are now in newtons, like the saved files. Check your force alarm limit and cut-detect threshold before the first cut: a value tuned against the old live plot is now 10 to 20 times stricter.
  • an NI-DAQ cut was stamped with the sample rate you asked for, not the rate the NI 9234 really ran at (25,000 Hz ran at 25,600 Hz). Start now refuses a rate the hardware would change and puts the nearest rate it can do in the field.
  • the clipping warning and auto-range assumed a 10 V input, but the NI 9234 force modules saturate at 5 V, so a channel could clip without a warning. They now use the module's real input range.
  • the Channels check above Start said "ok" for a channel that is not on the connected NI-DAQ chassis.
  • choosing a capture folder you cannot write to never answered. It is now refused straight away.
  • the Record page did not notice the Lab Amp or the NI-DAQ chassis being unplugged until the Connectivity Doctor was run. It now checks every few seconds while waiting to start.
  • Sample, Machine, Operator and operation type were forgotten after quitting the app.

Rigs pick this up from the d1-server update feed within about ten minutes.

Force App 0.1.34 (2026-10-07)

  • Record page: a pre-flight checklist above Start (Sample, sign-in, Lab Amp, tacho, disk space left in minutes, NI-DAQ channels), with "Show me" for anything that needs attention. Starting without a Sample asks first.
  • Record page: an amber early warning before the force limit (80 % by default), an option to stop the recording when the force alarm trips, and a tone volume setting. A red warning shows when a channel is clipping at the edge of its range during a cut.
  • Record page keyboard shortcuts: Ctrl+Enter starts, Ctrl+. stops, A acknowledges the alarm, Ctrl+N starts a new run and Enter confirms the save dialog. The list sits under Start.
  • The Record setup (cut parameters, Sample, Machine, Operator and other non-per-cut details) is remembered between launches. "Clear setup" empties it.
  • Local Captures: search, filter by status, sort, load more, select several captures to delete or upload at once, and "Free up space" to delete uploaded captures older than a number of days.
  • Connectivity Doctor: a "Restart recorder" button. It asks first, and refuses while a recording is running or being saved.
  • The update prompt shows what is new in the update. The Help menu (press Alt) has Report a Bug, Open Captures Folder, Check for Updates and About.
  • Plot page: "Copy link" shares the current view (operation, mode, zoom, crop, compare set and colour scale). In Compare, mark a pass as reference and turn on Difference to see the change from it, with mean and RMS.
  • Plot page: right-click a signal chart to save it as PNG or SVG. Signal statistics, the wear trend and the cluster table export to CSV. A "?" button lists the plot gestures, and every chart's y axis shows its unit.
  • Plot page: a cutting metrics card (resultant force, Fc/Ff/Fp, cutting speed, power and specific cutting force). The force-axis mapping defaults to Fc = Fx, Ff = Fy, Fp = Fz and is remembered per operation type.
  • Diagnostics: a searchable operation picker grouped by sample or campaign, apply a recipe to several operations at once, and edit, import and export recipes as JSON in the app.
  • Fixed: a capture whose upload died part-way could count as uploaded and be deleted by a cleanup. It now shows as "partial upload" and can be uploaded again, and Upload all no longer uploads the same capture twice.
  • Fixed: the filtered FFT overlay was drawn on a different scale from the main spectrum. Spectra now read in N rms everywhere.
  • Fixed: cutting speed and power used a shrinking diameter for every turning cut; only facing, grooving and parting spiral now. The Lite 3D "Z = Fx/Fy/Fz" view is no longer flat.
  • Fixed: an invalid analog full-scale value saved for the Lab Amp stopped every NI-DAQ recording from starting.
  • The Record page keeps up with the recorder: a cut that finished while you were on another page now offers to save when you come back, and after a backend restart the page reconnects on its own and points you to Recover for an interrupted cut.
  • Saving a cut to the database after a failed attempt resumes where it stopped instead of creating a second run record.
  • Pop-out windows follow the main window when it catches up with the recorder, and the Lab Amp is reset once a long save finishes. The banner says "Saving" while a cut is being saved.
  • Quitting or updating while a recording is still being saved now warns you first, instead of cutting the save short.
  • Fixed: a recording could hang for good if writing its data failed (for example a full disk); it now stops with the error and keeps what was captured. A virtual-channel formula that would fail during a recording is refused when you save it.
  • NI-DAQ channel, card and tacho settings are locked while a recording runs or is being saved.
  • Security: the recorder only answers this PC and the app itself, so a web page you visit can no longer start, stop or delete recordings or read the live data.
  • Plot page: a filter bake or point-cloud build that finishes after you switch operation no longer lands on the wrong operation, hovering a zoomed chart marks the right sample, the FRM views come back correctly after visiting another page, and polar plots handle negative values.
  • Settings > Connectivity: Save keeps only what you changed, and Reset returns to the app's own settings.
  • Replays of cuts longer than ten minutes work, and the live backup keeps its data if a session is registered twice.
  • Plot page: right-click a point on the FRM map to show when it happened on the force charts (and to set the crop there); hovering or right-clicking the charts shows the spot on the map, in the Lite and Full views.
  • Plot page: on a touchscreen, hold a finger on the map or a force chart to open the same menu; picking a point is faster; the Full and Gridded views follow the official crop once rebuilt, and keep matching the charts after you change the inner diameter or pulses per rev.

Rigs pick this up from the d1-server update feed within about ten minutes.
