TapTL v0.2.0

Smaller and easier to use.

  • Half the size: the app is now 16.7 MB (was 35 MB).
  • Stop button in the "Translating the screen" notification.
  • Start and stop from the app, not only from the tile. The tile is now optional.
  • Clearer home screen: a short setup checklist, then a simple On/Off card.
  • New Settings screen (gear icon): language, permissions and about.
  • Download progress for the language pack, for example "Downloading… 5.3 of 41.4 MB".

Install

  1. Download app-release.apk below and open it on your phone. Allow "install unknown apps" if asked. If you have v0.1.0, it updates in place and keeps your settings.
  2. Open TapTL and finish the 3 setup steps:
    • Allow Show over other apps.
    • Allow Notifications.
    • Download the language pack (about 40 MB, once per language).
  3. Tap Start and choose Share screen. Android asks every time. Then open your game.
  4. Optional: add the Translate tile to start and stop from Quick Settings.

Before you play

TapTL only records the screen and draws on top of it. It does not read game memory, tap for you or use accessibility services. Even so, the game's anti-cheat may not like screen overlays. Test on a secondary account first.

Translations by Google Translate (on-device), can be wrong.

@dracu-lah dracu-lah released this 11 Oct 16:46

TapTL v0.1.0

First release. TapTL shows English on top of foreign text on your screen, live. It was made for Valorant Mobile (CN) first and works in other games and apps too. Turn it on and off from a Quick Settings tile.

  • Works in menus, settings, the store and popups. It hides itself during gameplay.
  • Your taps still reach the game.
  • 12 languages to English: Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Vietnamese, Indonesian and Turkish.
  • A built-in word list for Valorant Mobile (CN) menus and settings.
  • A short animated intro that walks you through setup.
  • Free and offline after a one-time download.

Install

  1. Download app-release.apk below and open it on your phone. Allow "install unknown apps" if asked.
  2. Open TapTL, go through the intro and pick your language. Then follow the steps:
    • Allow Show over other apps.
    • Allow Notifications.
    • Download the translator (about 30 MB, once per language).
  3. Add the Translate tile: tap Add tile in the app, or swipe down twice, tap the pencil and drag "Translate" in.
  4. Open the game, tap the tile and choose Share screen. Android asks every time.

Before you play

TapTL only records the screen and draws on top of it. It does not read game memory, tap for you or use accessibility services. Even so, the game's anti-cheat may not like screen overlays. Test on a secondary account first.

Known limits

  • Short 2-character labels are sometimes misread.
  • Over moving lobby backgrounds, the English can lag a moment behind changes.
  • The game word list is Valorant Mobile (CN) only; other games use plain machine translation.
  • The first visit to a page with lots of text takes 1 to 2 seconds. Pages you have seen before are instant.
  • Android's own Settings app hides overlays, so TapTL can't show there.
  • Apps that block screenshots can't be translated. TapTL tells you and turns off.
