Dreapex TMM Tutorials

Hands-on tutorials for thin-film optical simulation — designing and analysing multilayer coatings with the transfer-matrix method (TMM), in the browser, with no install.

Every tutorial is a complete design you can rebuild yourself: pick materials, set thicknesses, run the calculation, read the result, then optimise it. The case studies go further and reproduce published figures from the literature, comparing the simulated numbers against the paper.

Available in English and Simplified Chinese.

What you can design here

Optical coatings — broadband antireflection (AR) coatings on glass, distributed Bragg reflectors (DBR) reaching 99% reflectance from transparent materials alone, Fabry–Pérot narrowband filters, 50/50 dielectric beamsplitters, dichroic beamsplitters that separate blue-green from red, and omnidirectional reflectors.

OLED, QLED and PeLED devices — microcavity effects on angular emission, light outcoupling efficiency in top-emitting QLEDs, tandem QLED stacks, and cavity thickness optimisation. Emission modelling treats the emitter as a radiating dipole inside the stack, so waveguide modes, surface plasmon (SPP) loss and the Purcell effect are part of the answer rather than an afterthought.

Photovoltaics — which layer of an a-Si thin-film solar cell actually absorbs the light, and why an optimised stack absorbs more, read from the electric field distribution, energy flow, and absorption density through the depth of the device.

Thin-film metrology — how the ellipsometric angles Ψ and Δ respond to a change in film thickness or refractive index, and how to read them.

Tolerance and dispersion — how deposition thickness errors shift a filter's passband, and what a Fabry–Pérot filter does to a short pulse in phase, group delay and pulse broadening.

Download as a PDF

Every release carries the whole book as a PDF, one per language — typeset for print and offline reading, with a numbered contents, figure numbering, and cross-references. Pick the release matching your version of Dreapex TMM.

Scope

These tutorials cover how to operate the software and how to interpret what comes out. The physics behind them, the complete parameter reference for every feature, how to read each kind of result, and the algorithm validation against independent references all live on the documentation site, which is updated more often and has full-text search. Links throughout these articles point there.

Published something with Dreapex TMM?

If you used Dreapex TMM in a paper, thesis, or technical note, open an issue with the Share a publication template. Accepted work is featured on the documentation site with a link back to the original.

Note that an issue is public the moment you open it.

Corrections and problems

The source of truth for the writing is the documentation site — corrections made there flow into this repository and the PDFs on the next publish, so a typo is best reported against the article you found it in.

For anything about this site itself — a broken link, a figure that fails to load, a layout problem, a rendering bug in the PDF — open an issue.
