First steps

1. Start it and check your setup

Run fast-lane. It loads your repositories from GitHub and scans your code folders for local checkouts. Press 5 for the Settings tab and make sure every prerequisite has a ✓. Anything with a ! or ✗ has a fix right under it.

2. Watch a repo

Press 3 for the Repos tab. It lists your repos, your starred repos and repos where you have open PRs; f switches between them and / searches. Press space on a repo to watch it. e chooses which kinds of activity to watch (pull requests, issues, Dependabot alerts, code scanning alerts).

The Repos tab with three watched repos, two with auto-run on and a local checkout

Its open items appear on the Events tab (1). This first look only records what's already open: nothing that existed before you started watching ever runs on its own.

3. Run Claude by hand

On the Events tab, pick an item and press enter. You see the instructions Claude will get, and can change them, before pressing ctrl+s to start.

Starting a session: where it runs, what it may do without asking, and its instructions

Follow along on the Sessions tab (2).

Claude reads code and GitHub freely. When it wants to do anything else, like edit a file, push, or comment, a dialog pops up with a bell:

  • y allows it, n denies it (you can tell Claude why), esc decides later.
  • a allows that kind of action for the rest of the session, when Claude Code offers that.

Claude asks permission to submit a review

When Claude asks a question, pick an answer with the arrows or number keys, or choose Something else… to type your own.

When it finishes, press enter on the session to reply and keep going.

4. Turn on automation

On the Repos tab, a turns on auto-run for a repo. With no rules, every newly opened item on it starts a session by itself.

To be choosier, open the Rules tab (4) and press n. For example, to have Claude fix CI on your own PRs:

  1. Leave the kind on pull_request and set the trigger to checks_failed with ←/→.
  2. Put your GitHub login under Authors.
  3. Under Allow, move with ←/→ and press space on edit and update_pr.
  4. Press ctrl+s.

A rule that lets Claude fix CI on your own PRs

Once any rule exists, only what the rules list auto-runs. Recipes has more examples, and Auto rules explains every field.

5. Let your inbox come to you

Review requests, @-mentions and assignments on any repo arrive from your GitHub notifications and start a session by default. Claude prepares the review or reply and asks before posting it. See Inbox.

6. Leave it running

Fast Lane checks every two minutes and rings the terminal bell when something needs you. Quit with q whenever you like: what it has seen and every session are saved. Sessions that were mid-turn are marked interrupted, and replying to one picks it up again.
