Installation

What you need

  • GitHub CLI, logged in with gh auth login. Fast Lane reads GitHub with the same login, so there are no tokens to set up. A classic token should have the repo scope (private repos, security alerts and notifications) and read:org (organization repos); gh auth login asks for both by default.
  • Claude Code, signed in. Run claude once on its own to sign in.
  • git 2.17 or later, for worktrees.
  • Go 1.26.7 or later, only to build from source.

Install

go install github.com/drlholloway/fast-lane@latest
fast-lane

go install puts fast-lane in $(go env GOPATH)/bin, usually ~/go/bin; make sure that is on your PATH. To pin a version, use @v0.1.0 instead of @latest.

Fast Lane only reads its own config file (~/.config/fast-lane/config.json) and state (~/.local/state/fast-lane/), and creates both on first use.

Check your setup

Start Fast Lane and press 5. The Settings tab's Prerequisites section checks each of the above, plus that Fast Lane can read your notifications and write its folders, and says how to fix anything that's off. If something needs attention when Fast Lane starts, the status line at the bottom tells you.

The Settings tab: prerequisite checks with a fix for each problem, then every setting

Options

fast-lane [-config path] [-version]
  • -config uses another config file, for example to keep a separate setup for work.
  • -version prints the version, such as fast-lane v0.1.0. Builds of untagged commits print the commit and date, such as dev (ea0a369, 2026-10-21).

Updating

Run the same go install again. Your config and session history carry over.
