What's new since v1.0.0

macOS is supported. This is the first release with a macOS build. It is signed and
notarized, so Gatekeeper does not block it.

A native 64-bit Windows package. Until now, 64-bit Intel/AMD machines ran the 32-bit
build. There is now a win-x64 package that runs natively. The 32-bit win-x86 package is
still published — it is the only one that runs on a 32-bit system.

Fixes

• Picking an entry in the serial-port dropdown could crash the application.
• The serial-port dropdown did not list every port present on the machine.
• Field widths in the New Session dialog were wrong.
• Export file names built from a port name are now sanitized before use.
• Several error messages named the wrong cause when a port could not be opened.

Downloads

Pick the one that matches your machine. The whole folder belongs together — copy all of
it, then run the program from inside it. Each package also contains a COMPATIBILITY.txt

Not sure which Windows package? Settings → System → About, look at System type. If it
says "ARM-based processor", take arm64. If it says "32-bit operating system", take x86.
Otherwise take x64.

Windows

The Windows executables are not code-signed. SmartScreen will show a
"Windows protected your PC" warning the first time you run one: choose More info →
Run anyway. Check the SHA-256 below before you do.

Requires Windows 10 version 1607 or later. Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 are not supported.
Nothing to install — the package is self-contained and needs no .NET runtime.

macOS

• Apple Silicon only. There is no Intel build. An Intel Mac fails in a way that does not
  say "wrong architecture", so check Apple menu > About This Mac first if the app will not start.
• macOS 12 (Monterey) or newer. This is the minimum recorded in the binary; the app has
  never been run on macOS 12 itself.

The app is signed and notarized, so it opens normally — no right-click-Open dance and no
Gatekeeper warning.

Drag diSerial.app into /Applications before opening it.

Running it straight from ~/Downloads also works, but macOS then launches it from a
randomized read-only path (App Translocation), which makes the app's own file paths in logs
harder to read. Moving it once removes that.

On macOS you can also check the signature and notarization yourself, which is something the
Windows packages cannot offer. Unpack it first — the check runs on the app, not on the zip:

⚠️ Use ditto or Finder — not unzip. unzip drops extended attributes, and part of
the signature is stored there. An app unpacked with unzip reports
rejected: source=no usable signature, which looks exactly like a tampered download but is
only the unpacking tool having thrown information away. Finder and ditto keep it.

Running spctl on the zip instead of the unpacked app answers
invalid API object reference and still exits 0, so check the app itself.

diSerial 1.0.0

First public release. diSerial is a free and open-source serial port tool and the official companion
software for the DSD TECH diDatatracker. Its core capability is dual-port passive bus monitoring:
both directions of a conversation between two devices, merged onto a single timeline.

The source that produced these binaries is the code published in this repository under tag v1.0.0.

Not sure which machine you have? Settings → System → About, look at System type. If it says
"ARM-based processor", take the arm64 package. Taking the x86 one there is not fatal — it runs, but
the whole interface is drawn 20–33% too small on a scaled display, which does not look like "wrong
package", it looks like a defect. Each package repeats this in its own COMPATIBILITY.txt.

Both packages are self-contained: there is no .NET runtime to install. Unzip anywhere and run
diSerial.exe. Windows 10 version 1607 or later; Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 are not supported.

Verifying what you downloaded

⚠️ The executable is not code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen will show a warning ("Windows
protected your PC"). Getting past it is More info → Run anyway.

That is exactly the case where the checksum is worth ten seconds:

Notes on this release

• UI languages — nine: English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, French,
  German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese. First launch follows the operating system's UI language;
  the Language menu switches live, no restart. Portuguese is European; Traditional Chinese uses
  Taiwanese terminology.
