Animation Tool Kit

Animation Tool Kit (ATK) is a dockable toolbar for Autodesk Maya that brings a curated collection of animation, rigging, viewport, and pipeline tools into one customizable workspace.

Latest Release GitHub Issues License

Overview

ATK is designed to reduce menu hunting and keep frequently used Maya tools available from a single compact toolbar.

The toolbar can be:

  • Docked above the Time Slider
  • Docked below the Shelf
  • Docked vertically on the left or right side of the viewport
  • Detached and used as a floating toolbar
  • Automatically reoriented when moved between horizontal and vertical dock areas
  • Customized to show only the tools you need

The dotted grip on the toolbar can be dragged to detach and reposition it.

Quick Installation

  1. Go to the latest ATK release.
  2. Download the release ZIP file.
  3. Extract the complete package to a folder on your computer.
  4. Keep these items together in the extracted folder:
    • install_atk_toolbar.mel
    • atk_toolbar/
    • animation tool kit scripts/
  5. Open Autodesk Maya.
  6. Drag install_atk_toolbar.mel from File Explorer or Finder into the Maya viewport.
  7. Wait for the installation confirmation.
  8. Click the new ATK shelf button to open the toolbar.

ATK installs into the current user's Maya scripts, icons, and preference directories.

  • Confirm that the installer and both required folders were kept together.
  • Restart Maya and check the current shelf.
  • Run the installer again from the extracted folder.

A tool does not open

  • Open ATK Settings and confirm that the tool is enabled.
  • Use Reload Scripts in the Settings window.
  • Run User Directory Check to verify the Maya script and icon paths.
  • Check Maya's Script Editor for an error message.

An icon is missing

The installer continues when an optional tool file or icon cannot be found. Re-extract the release package and reinstall ATK to restore missing files.

The toolbar is in the wrong location
