The Halyard Project Website

We’re building nuclear thermal propulsion (NTP) to make space travel faster and more efficient. Instead of relying on slow ground testing, we plan to test directly in space to move faster and reach the market sooner. Our goal is to use this approach to get ahead and set the pace in a new era of propulsion.

The Plan

Step 1: Design and test protype space-based nerichment

  • Moving the private posession of weapons grade nuclear materials from terrestrial to space ownership eliminates the need for a public-private partnership allowing for faster innovation. The first step is to test out prototype micro-satelite with an inert stand-in

Step 2: Obtain licensure to test with Uranium

  • We will obtain the licensure to use HALEU, and be the first to market to enrich fuel in space

Step 3: Robotic Nuclear Engine Assembly

  • Deploy a robotic platform to refuel a small modular reactor

Step 4: Space Nuclear Rocket Demonstration

  • Mail an empty nuclear reactor to space and put Uranium in it

Step 5: Vision '32

  • Manufacture entire fuel supply chain in space from enrichment to fuel manufacturing for rapid refueling of nuclear rocket booster fleet.
  • Provide commerial freight services between earth and interplanetary destinations.
