This release contains quite a few updates and changes, but the main one that this adds is data file migration. From this version forward, data files from older versions will be able to be migrated automatically to newer versions when updates to the database schema are created. As such, alongside this file migration comes a few more data fields.

  • When changes to the database schema are released, there is now a system in place to automatically update to the current version when you try to open them in a newer version of the program.
    • A backup file is also created, remaining on the old schema.
  • New fields have been added to the application, all of which are optional:
    • Application link, which will be displayed as a clickable link in the app info view
    • Job description, stored and displayed as rich text in case the application link becomes unavailable
    • Rejection / Declined / Cancelled date, for determining how long after an application it has become inactive
    • Experience level (can set a minimum and maximum in years of experience)
  • A new table has been added for document storage, though the actual implementation of this feature is planned for a future release.
  • The date with which an application was submitted can now be changed after its creation.
  • The application version is now displayed on the window title, alongside the name.
  • CSV and XLSX exports have been updated to accommodate the newly added data fields, and XLSX formatting has been updated as well.
  • Tooltips have been added to much of the clickable UI elements, as well as a more in-depth help description for the different application statuses.

v1.2.0

Yet another small release before working on a more major one. This one just has a couple more features that were easy to implement or that I thought would be useful for development for the next version, as well as a bugfix.

Changelog:

• Rather than just using one config file for all versions, config files are now separated into sub-folders based on the current app version. For non-development builds, config files are also automatically migrated when updating to a new version from the most recently installed previous version, if one was found.
  • Development builds will not migrate files automatically and release builds will not migrate files from development builds.
  • Files ARE migrated between different major releases, however, the "last open file" key is cleared in the new config, so the last open file will need to be manually opened upon updating to a different major release.
  • Config files are only migrated from previous versions to newer versions.
  • Since files are migrated, not shared, different versions of the program being used on the same system will retain their own configs once created.
  • The config file from versions 1.1 and prior are not migrated due to the differing config structure. However, the file from the previous version is compatible, so the file could be manually migrated.
• The "Applications Count" label on the main window can now be hidden, and is always hidden when no file is loaded.

Bug fixes:

• Fixed uncaught exceptions from when there is no file loaded and the user attempts to add an application or access the status window. These options are now disabled until a file is loaded or created, as well as the export options.

v1.1

Implemented some smaller updates in preparation for a larger release. This release will yet again have to be run manually - build instructions will come eventually. Hopefully.

Changelog:

• Added additional application states: Declined and Cancelled. Declined is used when you withdraw an application from a company. Cancelled is used when the company sends a rejection specifically due to the company deciding not to fill the position at all, as in nothing related to your candidacy.
• Added some tooltips in certain areas for more explanation of features. This will be expanded more in the future.
• Added a Privacy Filter, which hides certain pieces of information that could potentially expose personal information if, for example, you were sharing screenshots of the application. Adding new applications or editing existing applications will be disabled until the Privacy Filter is turned off.
• Prevents the application from opening data files meant for newer versions of the software. This is the first version that has this check, so DO NOT OPEN NEWER DATA FILES WITH THE PREVIOUS VERSION. This is in preparation for changes to the data files, which will have a versioning system to both prevent files meant for newer software versions from being opened by older ones, and to allow files meant for older versions of the software to be automatically updated.

1.0 Prerelease

Initially released version of the program. Program is feature-complete for this initial version at this stage, but I'm still figuring out the best way to package this program as an executable. Until then, it can be run like a python script using the instructions in README.md.
