PowerPress Cookie Guard v1.0.0
PowerPress Cookie Guard v1.0.0
Initial release of PowerPress Cookie Guard.
This plugin provides a temporary workaround for an issue observed with PowerPress 11.17.9 where pp_event_* cookies can accumulate during normal WordPress/PowerPress use.
Over time, the accumulated cookies can cause the browser's Cookie request header to exceed the web server's header-size limit, resulting in:
400 Bad Request
Size of a request header field exceeds server limit.
Features
- Detects only PowerPress
pp_event_*cookies. - Automatically removes older PowerPress event cookies before they can accumulate indefinitely.
- Preserves the newest six event cookies to allow recent PowerPress success/error notices to continue functioning.
- Does not modify or delete WordPress authentication cookies.
- Tracks the total number of PowerPress event cookies cleaned.
- Displays cleanup status on the WordPress Plugins screen.
- Does not modify PowerPress core/plugin files.
Automatic Updates
Includes native GitHub Release update support.
Future published releases will be detected through the normal WordPress plugin update system and can be automatically installed when WordPress Auto-updates is enabled for the plugin.
Important
If the browser is already receiving the HTTP 400 error, the request is being rejected before WordPress or this plugin can execute.
Clear the site's cookies once, log back into WordPress, and then activate PowerPress Cookie Guard. The plugin will then work to prevent the PowerPress event cookies from accumulating again.
Compatibility
Developed and tested specifically as a workaround for the pp_event_* cookie behavior observed with PowerPress 11.17.9.
