  • Look back when a task is done. After the confetti, planned and tracked time side by side and "How did the time compare?": About as planned, Took longer, Took less, or Tracking is off, with an optional note. Skippable; kept with the task (shown at the bottom of its details) and used by the assistant when estimating.
  • Tags on tasks, from one tag list. Label a task (e.g. "Service") in its details; tags are shared with Momentum's, shown in the list, and searchable.
  • Search your tasks from TaskScape's list: the list and the graph narrow to the matches.
  • Add a link or file as a resource before you've used it: paste a web address or file path, open it from the task, and its time counts once you use it.
  • Task details: the way back ("‹ Back to TaskScape") and the task's name stay at the top while you scroll; notes and steps look like boxes to type in; "Productive" is three buttons; "Record" is now "Focus".
  • TaskScape: tasks in Within a month, Later and Overdue are drawn smaller (only a day shows full size); move Someday tasks anywhere across Someday.
  • The time-lapse skips idle stretches when playing (⋯ to turn off), and names the task while showing a recorded session ("Working on a task named …"). Watching a recorded session now keeps playing.
  • The assistant remembers lasting facts about you (your role, what your tags mean, how you plan) and says when it does; it no longer sets a task's importance or feeling unless you say so.
  • Fixes: TaskScape no longer switches to the Importance axis by itself; the AI button isn't hidden in task details; Settings no longer shows an unreliable "when full" disk estimate.

Which Macs: QWER works on Macs running macOS 12 Monterey or later, with Apple silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4 or later) or an Intel processor. Download the file for yours: …-arm64.dmg for Apple silicon, …-x64.dmg for Intel. To check, open the Apple menu → About This Mac: "Chip: Apple M…" means Apple silicon, "Processor: … Intel" means Intel. Tested on macOS 14 Sonoma (Apple silicon; the Intel version was tested there too, through Rosetta).

QWER isn't notarized by Apple yet, so the first time you open it you may need System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. It needs Screen Recording permission to capture your screen.

QWER is in testing, so versions start with 0 until its public release. Versions 0.1.0 to 0.1.9 were shared as 1.0.0 to 1.0.9.

  • Tabs in a new order, and yours to arrange. TaskScape and Focus come first, then the time-lapse, Momentum and Settings; QWER opens on the first one. Drag a tab to move it (Settings stays last); the order is remembered.

  • Someday tasks are small dots. Someday has no days to fill, so its tasks don't take room as if they used up time; dragged onto a date, a task takes its full size again.
  • A completed task no longer shows its path when pointed at in the list.
  • A selected task's bar closes after 5 seconds untouched (it was 8).

  • Watch a recorded session. ▶ Watch (in a task's Recorded sessions, the review when you stop, and Focus) opens the time-lapse at the session's start and plays it forward, pausing at its end unless you take over.
  • Focus: choose before you start. Start is off until you pick a task, type a new one, or choose Just focus (no task). A task added from Focus is due today (or on a date you type, like "… by Friday"), so it shows on TaskScape to move later.
  • The day strip shows a recording in progress: its red line runs up to now and ends in a pulsing dot.
  • A selected task's bar shows its full name, on its own line above the colors and buttons.
  • Fix: times in the TaskScape assistant's answers open the time-lapse at that moment.

  • Focus asks "What do you plan to work on?" Search your tasks (most urgent first), type a new one (Add and start), or pick nothing and just focus: a timer that records nothing toward a task.
  • A task assistant in TaskScape. Ask AI there acts like an executive assistant: paste notes, an email or a list and it turns them into tasks; ask it to plan your day, move what's due while you're away, find what to drop, or break a task into steps.
  • Draw a task at its size. Press ◯ beside undo, then press where the task goes and drag out: the circle grows with the time it stands for, and the new task opens at that size.
  • Today · Someday. The list's filter is now a pair. Someday shows only tasks with no due date, labeled on the graph, to help you pick what's next. A task you move out of the filter stays in view for a few seconds instead of vanishing.
  • Five days, and a roomier Someday. TaskScape shows today and the next four days day by day, and Someday is much wider, with its circles spread out (they may push each other sideways there, never out of Someday).
  • Shrink days off (Settings → TaskScape): days off are drawn narrow ("Sat–Sun"), so TaskScape shows your next 5 work days. Work days are the same as your daily goal's, and can be changed from either place.
  • Rank by dragging. Sorted by excitement or importance, drag a task between two others to rank it there; its circle moves to match.
  • Importance is shown with ❗ instead of ⭐, and Sort your apps only asks about apps you used at least 10 minutes on a day.

  • Pause a recording. Focus has Pause and Resume next to Stop. Paused time doesn't count toward the task and is left out of its review.
  • Recordings pause by themselves when you're away: the screen locks, the Mac sleeps, or there's no keyboard or mouse input for 5 minutes, counted from when you left. When you're back, a notification says so; Resume in Focus carries on.
  • Coming back to QWER while a task records or is paused shows Focus (⌘Tab, the Dock or the menu bar).
  • Quick lengths in Focus: 25 min, 30 min, 50 min and 1 hr pills under the timer. Before starting they set the length and Start begins right away; while recording they change the session's planned time. The task menu lists the most urgent tasks first.
  • Forgot to stop? A session's review shows when it ended, which you can change to earlier, and suggests the likely end when it ran well past its plan ("Planned 30 min. End it at 11:30 AM"). What came after no longer counts for the task.
  • Simpler reviews: apps used under a minute aren't shown (their time still counts), the review in Focus can be closed with × and stays closed, and while recording Focus shows the apps used without the colored strip.
  • Does a task's time count as productive? Each task now has its own answer. Until you decide, its apps keep their own levels. Momentum asks once, when a task has 10 minutes or more in apps that aren't productive; you can change the answer in the task's details.
  • The day strip shows when a task was recorded, as a thin red line (point at it for the task), and where this Mac and another Mac overlap, it shows this Mac.
  • What you worked on moved to Momentum (shown when TaskScape is on). Momentum's Apps list no longer has task buttons, and TaskScape's list starts with its own heading.
  • Fixes: Open task (from Focus, a review or Momentum) works after you've visited TaskScape, and the AI assistant explains the score correctly.

  • Encrypt your screenshots and videos. Turn it on in Settings → Storage & privacy. Finder, Quick Look, other apps and backups then can't open them; QWER shows them as before. What's already recorded is converted in the background (a few seconds). The key is kept in your Mac's Keychain. Save the recovery key Settings shows you: you need it to open the files on another Mac or after the Keychain is reset.
  • Save a copy of a picture to use elsewhere, as a normal image: Save image… in the full-size picture window (or ⌘S), and Save this frame… in the time-lapse's ⋯ and right-click menus (the whole screen, at full size).
  • Exporting a day as a video now saves a normal MP4 in Downloads and shows it in Finder.
  • Disk usage "when full" is right again. With screenshots kept for only a day, it counted them as almost nothing (it said about 360 MB where about 870 MB is right).

  • Record a task, then sort out what belonged. Press the red dot on a task (in the list or its details), or Start in the new Focus tab. QWER asks how long you'd like to spend: 25 minutes to start with, quick choices of 25, 30 and 50 minutes or 1 hour, or any number of minutes or hours. Everything you do counts toward the task until you stop. Only one task records at a time.
  • The Focus tab is a calm, Pomodoro-style timer: the task, a ring counting down your time, and what you've used so far. Going past your time is fine: the ring keeps going in a lighter color and suggests a break. After you stop, it shows where the task stands and the session you just recorded, ready to sort.
  • Review a session when you stop. You see the session in time order and a card per app (as Momentum's Apps list names them), each with a picture from the session (the magnifier opens it full size). Uncheck what wasn't part of the work and its time comes off the task. Unchecked apps move to a short "Not part of the work" list, where a click brings one back. "+ Resource" keeps an app or site as one of the task's resources.
  • Reviewed sessions are marked. A task's Recorded sessions show "✓ Reviewed" once you've reviewed one, and "Mark as not reviewed" sets it back.
  • Task time counts as productive. Time that counts toward a task is at least Productive in your score and Momentum, even in an app that's normally Neutral (like email for a task). Very productive time stays Very productive.
  • Your other Macs in the day strip. The time-lapse's day strip shows when your other Macs were in use, in grey, with their names underneath. Hover a grey stretch for which Mac and what was used.
  • Today only, on TaskScape too. The list's Today filter also hides the other circles, and each of today's tasks gets a label beside its circle with its due time and progress. Labels don't overlap.
  • The list's color dot is gone; it looked like the recording dot.

  • Drag across the colored timeline in the time-lapse to select a span, taking whole app blocks, and add it to a task: everything recorded in it counts toward the task, whatever the app. A click still goes to that moment.
  • Tasks you haven't placed on an axis yet show a ? on that axis (for example, placed on Feeling but never on Importance), with a count beside the axis choices. Drag them up or down to place them.
  • TaskScape selection works like a drawing app: clicking another circle clears the selected area; the area shows a hand and can be dragged from anywhere inside it; undo puts a moved area back.
  • Path closes the circle's bar when pressed and shows "Path of … · Esc to close"; the size handle hides meanwhile. Selecting a circle no longer draws dashed marks at its earlier due dates.
  • In the time-lapse's Add to a task menu, a repeating task is listed once.

  • Select part of TaskScape to filter the list. Drag across empty space to draw a box, like selecting part of an image: the list shows only the tasks inside it (by date and by height), repeating ones included. ×, Esc or a click elsewhere shows everything again.
  • Move several tasks at once. Shift- or ⌘-click circles (or use the box) and drag one of them: they all move together, keeping their arrangement.
  • Undo and redo in TaskScape with ⌘Z and ⇧⌘Z (or ↶ ↷ by the heading): moves, sizes, colors, names, added and deleted tasks. A deleted task comes back with its resources.
  • Delete or Backspace deletes the selected task, or all the picked ones, after asking.
  • Fixes: a "first Monday of every month" task typed without a date no longer starts on a date that has passed; "weekdays" in the middle of a task's name no longer makes it repeat; repeating tasks keep making their tasks over many months; More specific in Sort your apps no longer undoes a site you split into every address; a site's address as a task's resource (swag.cs.vt.edu) steps to the right levels; Slack workspaces folded into Slack show properly under Grouping rules; and opening task details with resources is much faster.
