Q3 2026 Release Notes
Q3 2026 Revisions Summary
Several important updates were made to FIBO in Q3. These include
(1) new support for digital assets and digital token identifiers (DTI), with additional detail corresponding to ISO 24165 registration coming over the next two quarters,
(2) release of two controlled vocabularies corresponding to the ACTUS (Algorithmic Contract Types Unified Standards) taxonomy and data dictionary of contract terms, with additional controlled vocabularies and mappings planned over the coming months, and
(3) new support for representation of pension plans and pension funds, including a provisional ontology representing the classification scheme for pension plans and funds published by the OECD, with additional work in this area also planned, based on use cases from EDMA members.
We also revised the ISO MIC codes this quarter as usual. Additional detail is provided by domain area, below.
ACTUS Vocabulary (ACTUS)
One of the main thrusts of Q3 was to clean up the FIBO representation of two controlled vocabularies: (1) the controlled vocabulary representing the ACTUS Taxonomy, and (2) the controlled vocabulary representing the ACTUS data dictionary terms. We moved the mapping(s) to FIBO to a separate mapping ontology, which is still provisional, and released both controlled vocabularies this quarter. There are a few enumerated lists of valid values remaining in the data dictionary that will be included over time. Next steps will include representation of the set of contract events needed for ACTUS, some of which are included in a draft ontology under corporate actions and events, and development of the mapping for all contract identification elements and counterparty elements from the ACTUS data dictionary to FIBO. Those elements are required for most contract types, and thus will facilitate early testing of the mapping between FIBO and ACTUS for emerging use cases.
Business Entities (BE)
This quarter a new user ran satisfiability tests over all of FIBO and uncovered a bug with a property in BE, hasVestedInIt, which we had not noticed as it isn't used anywhere. The bug was addressed in this release but we may deprecate this property in a further clean-up release given that it is confusing and not used.
Business Process Domain (BP)
There were no changes to the BP domain in Q3.
Corporate Action and Events Domain (CAE)
There were no changes to the CAE domain in Q3, but we anticipate changes in the Q4 release to include release of the ACTUS controlled vocabulary for events and possibly the ISO 20022 set of events provided for mapping purposes.
Derivatives (DER)
There were minimal changes to the DER domain in the Q3 release, including a bug fix related to the date time format included in an annotation in metadata. We anticipate updates will emerge through use cases under development with the funds data management community at EDMA, and as we map more of the ACTUS data dictionary to FIBO over the coming months.
Examples Module (EXMP)
There were no updates to the examples in Q3, though we anticipate new examples as we build out use cases related to funds and ACTUS over the next few quarters.
Financial Business and Commerce (FBC)
Significant activity this quarter involved ontologies in FBC. One of the more important changes was the addition of concepts to FND and FBC supporting representation of digital assets, including digital token identifiers (DTI). We anticipate additional changes over the coming quarters to incorporate concepts and mapping required to support registration of digital tokens, and invite any of our user community to reach out if they have expertise in this area and want to join us in that effort. Other revisions in Q3 include a couple of bug fixes and our quarterly update to the ISO MIC codes.
Foundations (FND)
The primary change to the FND domain in Q3 was the addition of high-level concepts representing digital assets, in support of emerging work to cover digital token identifiers (DTIs). That work will continue over the next quarter, and we can anticipate further changes to support that effort. Other planned work includes consolidation of smaller ontologies that were modified once the original concepts became available in the OMG Commons Ontology Library. Note that some concepts and possibly entire ontologies which were replaced in Q3/Q4 2025 and have been deprecated for a year or more may be eliminated in Q4 2026 or Q1 2027, to enable further simplification.
Indicators and Indices (IND)
There were no changes made to IND in Q3. We anticipate that there may be modifications made, mainly to add granularity, in Q4 to facilitate mapping to ACTUS.
Loans (LOAN)
No modifications to LOAN were made in Q3. Two emerging use cases that will impact the LOAN domain include (1) work on a PoC by the EDMA DMAM funds-related community for analysis of very large bank loans, and (2) revisions to enable mapping to ACTUS. Both of these use cases will likely impact the LOAN domain and provide content we can use for further extension and refinement in Q4 2026 / Q1 2027.
Market Data Domain (MD)
There were no changes to the MD domain in Q3. Some parameters covered in the provisional MD ontologies may be moved to other domain areas as we build out the mapping to ACTUS, however, over the next couple of quarters.
Securities (SEC)
This quarter we augmented the funds-related content in FIBO to include coverage of the OECD classification of pension plans and funds. This effort, which resulted in a new provisional PensionPlans ontology under Funds, supports use cases by EDMA members that have pension plan and pension fund products. We anticipate further refinement of the PensionPlans ontology with those members over the coming quarter and promotion of that ontology in Q4 2026 or Q1 2027 to release once preliminary results are available from those members, including examples that we can provide under EXMP.
