Task Manager v2.1.2

A bug-fix release. No data changes — every task, schedule, and integration link
carries straight over.

🐞 Fixes

  • Desktop notifications now actually appear on Windows. They previously used the
legacy tray "balloon tip", which Windows 10/11 routinely suppress. Notifications now
use native Windows toasts that land reliably in the Action Center, and the
Notifications tab's Send a test notification button now reports honest
success/failure instead of always claiming it sent. (Other platforms keep the
    previous notifier.)
  • The "Completed" filter now shows only what you completed that day. Selecting
Status → Completed used to list every completed task ever, including deadline-less
ones. It now shows only tasks marked complete on the selected day (defaults to today),
and follows the day picker so you can look back at any date. Older tasks completed
before this update have no recorded completion date and appear under All.

📦 Install

  • Download TaskManager.exe below and just run it — no install, no admin rights.
Your data lives per-user at %LOCALAPPDATA%\TaskManager\tasks.db, and the app keeps
    itself up to date.

Note: the app is not code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen (or Smart App Control) may
still warn on first run — choose More info → Run anyway. Under Smart App Control
a fresh unsigned build can be blocked outright until it earns cloud reputation.

Full changelog is appended below.

Task Manager v2.1.1

A small build maintenance release. No feature or data changes — every task,
schedule, and integration link carries straight over.

🔧 Changes

  • Portable TaskManager.exe is no longer UPX-packed. Packed executables trip
extra antivirus, SmartScreen, and Smart App Control heuristics, which was blocking
v2.1.0 on some machines. The exe is a little larger now but trips fewer flags on
    first run.

@github-actions github-actions released this 09 Sep 18:38

Task Manager v2.1.0

This release makes the app actually notify you — a real notification center with
desktop alerts, a working bell menu, and settings that persist — and simplifies
distribution to a single portable TaskManager.exe. Your data is untouched:
every task, schedule, and integration link carries straight over.

✨ New — Notification center

  • Desktop notifications, on an ongoing basis. Reminders for due-today and
overdue tasks now fire beyond startup (re-checked periodically, de-duplicated so
the same task won't nag you twice a day). Syncs also alert you to Azure PR events
(assigned for review, a new comment on your PR, changes requested) and Linear
    issues
    that become tasks.
  • The bell menu is real now. The header bell shows an actual, persisted feed with
an unread badge; Mark all read sticks across restarts.
  • A Notifications settings tab that works. A master switch, per-source toggles,
quiet hours, and a sound preference all persist and gate what gets delivered,
and Send a test notification fires a real desktop toast.

🔧 Changes

  • Distribution is now the portable TaskManager.exe only — the
TaskManager-Setup.exe installer has been retired. Builds already installed via the
old installer keep auto-updating automatically (they swap the exe in place).

📦 Install

  • Download TaskManager.exe below and just run it — no install, no admin rights.
Your data lives per-user at %LOCALAPPDATA%\TaskManager\tasks.db, and the app keeps
    itself up to date.

Note: the app is not code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen (or Smart App Control) may
warn on first run — choose More info → Run anyway.

Task Manager v2.0.1

A maintenance release that fixes in-app auto-update for builds installed with
TaskManager-Setup.exe. Your data is untouched — every task, schedule, and
integration link carries straight over.

🐛 Fixes

  • Auto-update now works when the app was installed via the installer. Installed
builds now update by re-running the installer silently instead of trying to swap
the exe in place. This keeps the Add/Remove Programs version and uninstaller in
sync, and — for the first time — updates installs under C:\Program Files
(with a single administrator prompt when needed). Per-user installs still update
with no prompt, and the portable TaskManager.exe keeps its in-place update.
  • Declining the administrator prompt no longer loses your app. If an elevated
update is cancelled, Task Manager reports it and stays open on the current
    version instead of closing.

Upgrading from an older Program Files install: because the fix ships inside
this release, a build already installed under C:\Program Files needs to be
updated once manually — download and run TaskManager-Setup.exe below. Every
update after that installs automatically. Per-user installs upgrade to this
version automatically.

📦 Install

  • Recommended: download TaskManager-Setup.exe below and run it. It
installs to your user profile (no administrator rights needed), creates
shortcuts, and can be removed later from Settings → Apps.
  • Portable: the standalone TaskManager.exe is still available if you
prefer to run it without installing.

Note: the installer and app are not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may
show a warning on first run — choose More info → Run anyway.

Full changelog is appended below.

v2.0.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 08 Sep 23:58

Task Manager v2.0.0

A complete visual redesign. Task Manager moves to the flat, square
"blueprint" look — a slate-blue accent, hairline dividers, and the bundled
Barlow type family — and gains a notification center, in-window reminder
toasts, and a friendlier task list. Nothing about your data changes; every task,
schedule, and integration link carries straight over.

✨ What's new

  • Brand-new interface. A cohesive light/dark theme built from a single set of
design tokens: flat surfaces, crisp dividers, a slate-blue accent, and custom
themed icons throughout. Dark mode was rebuilt to match.
  • Bundled Barlow font. The app now ships and uses the Barlow / Barlow
Condensed fonts, so it looks the same on every machine. If they can't load, it
falls back cleanly to Segoe UI.
  • Notification center. A bell in the header with an unread badge and a
slide-in panel of recent alerts, plus a new Notifications tab for choosing
which events notify you and how.
  • In-window reminder toasts. Task reminders now also appear as a dismissible
card in the corner of the window, mirroring the desktop notification.
  • Clearer task list.
    • Priority now shows as a coloured badge (Urgent / High / Medium / Low).
    • Each row has a checkbox — tick it to complete or reopen a task in place.
    • A drag handle on every row makes manual reordering more discoverable.
  • Redesigned task editor. Priority is now a segmented control instead of a
dropdown, so all four levels are visible at a glance.
  • Refreshed integration tabs. The Azure DevOps and Linear settings are laid
out in "blueprint" panels, and Linear's exclude-labels now wrap as tidy chips.
  • Smoother busy indicator. The footer's progress bar is replaced by a compact
animated spinner that names the running sync.

🐛 Fixes

  • Manual reordering no longer makes a task briefly vanish. Drag-to-reorder now
runs its own drag so the table is never left with a missing row until the next
    refresh.
  • Linear remembers your team names. Selected teams now display as
"Engineering (ENG)" after a restart instead of a bare id.

@github-actions github-actions released this 07 Sep 21:15

Task Manager v1.5.1

A reliability fix for in-app updates. Previous versions could download an
update, relaunch, and quietly come back up on the old version — this release
fixes that, and makes the download feel less like it's stuck.

🐛 Fixes

  • In-app updates now actually apply. The updater used to overwrite the running
program in place, which Windows blocks while the app's launcher is still shutting
down — so the swap silently failed and the app reopened on the previous version.
It now swaps the executable the reliable way (renaming the old one aside first)
and only relaunches once the new version is in place.
  • Download no longer looks frozen at 0%. While connecting to the download the
dialog now shows a moving "Connecting…" bar, then switches to a real
percentage as soon as data starts arriving, instead of sitting at 0%.

⚠️ One-time manual update

Because the broken updater is baked into builds up to and including v1.5.0,
updating from one of those builds may still land you back on the old version. To
get onto the fixed updater, install v1.5.1 once by hand:

  • Download TaskManager-Setup.exe below and run it (or the portable
    TaskManager.exe), over your existing install.

From v1.5.1 onward, Help → Check for updates… works normally.

Task Manager v1.5.0

This release sharpens both integrations. Linear tasks now follow their tickets far
more faithfully, the Azure tab is clearer, and the app tells you at a glance when
it's talking to a service and when the next auto-sync will run.

✨ New features

  • Clearer integration tabs. The former "Integrations" tab is now simply
Azure, so it reads as a sibling to the Linear tab instead of a catch-all.
  • Live sync feedback. A busy indicator in the status bar appears whenever an
integration is contacting Azure or Linear (testing, syncing, or loading), so a
background sync is no longer invisible.
  • Linear next-sync countdown. The footer countdown now shows both the next
Azure and the next Linear auto-sync when each integration is active.
  • Ticket-driven Linear priority. A synced Linear task now takes its priority
straight from the Linear ticket, so re-prioritising a ticket re-prioritises its
    task on the next sync.
  • Azure "waiting for author". A PR that's waiting on its author is parked at
low priority and unpinned, then restored once it's active again.
  • Richer About box with version, author, contact, and project links.

🐛 Fixes

  • Linear tasks reopen correctly. A task auto-completed because its ticket left
the synced statuses or picked up an excluded label now reopens on the
next sync once the ticket returns to a synced status or the label is removed —
    instead of staying stuck complete.

If you're already on v1.4.0 or later, this update can also be installed from
within the app (Help → Check for updates…).

Note: the installer and app are not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may
show a warning on first run — choose More info → Run anyway.

Task Manager v1.4.1

Task Manager now ships a proper Windows installer, so it installs like a
normal app — with Start Menu and Desktop shortcuts and an entry in Add/Remove
Programs — instead of running as a loose portable file.

✨ New features

  • Windows installer. Download TaskManager-Setup.exe to install Task
Manager per-user (no admin prompt). It adds Start Menu and Desktop shortcuts
and registers an uninstaller under Settings → Apps. In-app updates keep working
exactly as before — the app still updates and relaunches itself.

If you're already on v1.4.0 or later, this update can also be installed from
within the app (Help → Check for updates…).

Note: the installer and app are not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may
show a warning on first run — choose More info → Run anyway.

@github-actions github-actions released this 07 Sep 19:23

Task Manager v1.4.0

A Reset option to wipe the database and a set of Azure PR improvements:
PR tasks now always get a clickable link, name their repository in the title,
and existing tasks are backfilled with their link on the next sync.

✨ New features

  • Reset all data. A new Data → Reset (clear all data)… menu entry wipes
every task, schedule, recurring override, and synced integration link, and
resets id counters. It is guarded by a confirmation dialog and cannot be
    undone.
  • Repository name in PR titles. Azure PR tasks now read
"Your Contoso PR #123: …" / "Review Contoso PR #123: …" so PRs from
different repositories are distinguishable at a glance.

🐛 Bug fixes

  • Azure PR tasks always get a clickable link. Azure's pull-request list
endpoint often omits the PR's web URL, so some PR tasks had no ↗ link in
their row (unlike Linear tasks). The link is now reconstructed from the
organization, project, repository, and PR id when the API leaves it out.
  • Existing PR tasks are backfilled. Tasks created before the link fix gain
their ↗ link automatically on the next sync — the link is only added when a
task has none, so any description you have edited is left untouched.

📦 Install

Download TaskManager.exe below (Windows). The build is produced and tested in
CI for this tag. If you're already on v1.3.0 or later, this update can be

Task Manager v1.3.0

In-app updates arrive: Task Manager can now check GitHub for a newer version and
update itself. Plus a fix for overlapping titles in the task list.

✨ New features

  • Built-in updater. Task Manager now checks GitHub for a newer release in the
background on startup and offers to install it, showing the new version's
release notes first. You can also check any time from Help → Check for
    updates…
, and an About entry shows the current version. On the packaged
Windows app the update downloads and installs itself, then relaunches; elsewhere
it opens the releases page. After an update, a one-time "What's new" popup
    summarises the changes.

🐛 Bug fixes

  • Task titles no longer overlap in the list. When a row switched to a linked
title (e.g. a PR or Linear task whose text contains a URL), the new title could
be painted on top of a stale one, so two titles appeared jumbled together — most
visible after enabling the Linear integration next to Azure PR tasks. Each task
now renders cleanly on its own row.

📦 Install

Download TaskManager.exe below (Windows). The build is produced and tested in
CI for this tag. Once you're on v1.3.0, future updates can be installed from
within the app.
