First public test build of Carina: a player for your own IPTV playlists (Xtream Codes and M3U). Free and open source under GPL-3.0. Carina ships no channels or content.

This is a beta. The Android TV and webOS builds have not been tried on a real TV yet, so expect rough edges. Please report what you find under Issues, and include the device model.

Windows 10/11 x64 Carina-Setup-*-x64.exe or *-win-x64-portable.zip Not signed yet: code signing via the SignPath Foundation is coming (policy). Until then SmartScreen may warn → "More info" → "Run anyway".
macOS 12+ *-macos.zip Signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple: unzip and open, no warning.
Android TV / Google TV *-androidtv.apk 32- and 64-bit ARM (Chromecast with Google TV, Google TV Streamer, Mi TV Stick, Shield…). Sideload with "Downloader" or adb install. Later builds install over this one.
LG webOS 4+ (2019 →) *.ipk Separate lightweight app. Needs LG Developer Mode; see the webOS README.

SHA256SUMS*.txt lists the checksums.

What's new

  • Android TV / Google TV
    • The whole app works with the remote: Back and OK on every screen, holding OK opens context menus, and focus is clearly visible.
    • Player: on-screen controls, a seek bar you can focus, previous channel, and a mini guide.
    • Guide, multi-channel view and movie and series rows can all be navigated with the remote.
    • Add a playlist from your phone: scan the QR code shown on the TV and type the details on your phone.
    • Programme reminders appear as notifications, and the screen stays awake while a video plays.
  • webOS (LG):
    • Live TV with now/next, movies and series, favourites and search.
    • Resume where you left off, and autoplay of the next episode.
    • Large M3U playlists are parsed in the background.
  • All platforms: the User-Agent names the real OS, plus test and CI fixes.

Known limits

  • Android TV: video output has not been checked on a real device; the emulator cannot render the player's video. The first reports from testers matter most here.
  • webOS: codec support (AC-3/E-AC-3, HEVC in TS) depends on the TV model. Live streams use the TV's own player.
