I currently have my own version of the previous Element IOS , I really like the work on Element X and want to migrate, so i would like to ask for audio calls on private/group calls

Same here. There is a discussion over at element-meta, but it looks like this feature is not a priority for now.

That's super strange.
Should be really simple to add audio calls only. No idea what's going on. So finally it's hard to convince others to use Element because of such a basic thing (feature would be the wrong word because it's just basic!).

The main problem is not that there is only a video call button. After the call starts, it is not convenient to turn off the camera, but it is possible. The main problem is that Element Call currently looks and works as an alternative to Zoom, Google Meet, and so on. These services are for completely different needs. This interface does not provide the basic functions of a classic audio call in phones, such as automatically turning off the screen after raising the screen to your ear. When using a headset, it is convenient to switch to headphones or another sound source/microphone. Convenient interface for incoming calls. Even if the developers for some reason do not want to use standard matrix audio calls, the new call interface should still have basic audio call functions.
It is really not clear why not to make a separate button, it is much more convenient.
Perhaps the analytics team received information that a large number of customers use video calls and believe that audio calls are no longer needed. It seems to me that this is just a tough way to promote Element Call as it is currently.

Did that, and got no response really, I wish they'd just add it as a feature, since it would make me really interested in using it

I would also like to stress the importance of the simple audio call button: Element X should try to reproduce the convenience of WhatsApp & Telegram.

Any progress here?
It seems like that after element-call#3493 (been ready for a while), the only block for the appearance of functionality is this issue.

I would suggest asking in https://github.com/element-hq/element-call so that the right team see the question – the Element Call team are also responsible for how the feature is embedded within the clients.
