v1.0.3 — setup fix for newer Pythons
Setup fix for Macs with a newer Python. The native Mac version of Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005), 1.0.3. The game itself is unchanged from 1.0.2.
You need your own copy of the PC game (Black Edition, version 1.3). This release contains no game files.
Fixed
- Setup stopped with the pypi.org message although the internet was fine (#5). On Macs with Python 3.13 or later (for example from Homebrew), one build tool had no ready-made package, so installing it failed and the setup wrongly blamed the network. The setup now uses Python 3.11 or 3.12, or downloads its own 3.12, and remakes the environment a failed run left. Nothing needs to be uninstalled.
- The setup now says plainly whether the network or something else stopped it; the full output is in
build/pip.log. - Copy the log button in the Setup app, for bug reports.

v1.0.2 — change any button
Change any button. The native Mac version of Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005), 1.0.2.
You need your own copy of the PC game (Black Edition, version 1.3). This release contains no game files.
New and fixed
- Remap your controller in the game's own menu: Options → Controls, press R2 (or Tab) for the Controller page, pick an action, press Cross/A, then press the button you want. Square clears a slot, Circle puts this port's layout back, Triangle finishes. Your layout is saved with your profile. In 1.0.1 the port put its own layout back over this screen, so a remapped button returned as "Button 1" (#4).
- Button names instead of numbers: Cross / A, R2 / RT, Left Stick Up and so on, for PlayStation and Xbox controllers alike. The keyboard page now names its keys too.
- Analog triggers: a trigger is a full analog pedal for any action you give it, so Accelerate on R2 and Brake on L2 drive like a modern racing game.
- Read Me in the Setup app: a Read Me button shows the setup instructions, for Macs that won't open the text file on the disk image.

v1.0.1 — setup fixes
Setup fixes for the native Mac version of Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005). The game itself is unchanged from 1.0.
You need your own copy of the PC game (Black Edition, version 1.3). This release contains no game files.
Fixed
- Setup stopped at Ghidra on macOS 27 with "unable to load libxcrun ... need 'x86_64'" (#3). This happens on Macs with an Intel-only Python, often an old Homebrew in
/usr/localfrom an Intel Mac. The setup now uses only a native Apple Silicon Python (or its own) and repairs the environment an earlier run made. - Blocked connection to pypi.org: the setup retries longer and, if the Python package index stays unreachable, says so plainly (VPN, proxy or firewall app) instead of pip's "No matching distribution found for capstone".
- Older FFmpeg installed elsewhere (for example in
/usr/local/include): the build always uses the bundled FFmpeg's own headers. Thanks @DarthMDev (#2).
