Release list
v1.5.2
Changes
- OmniPacker is now licensed under the GNU GPL version 3 or any later version. Earlier releases (up to and including 1.5.1) stay under the GPL version 2.
- License files for the bundled tools are now included. The DepotDownloader and 7-Zip licenses now ship next to their programs inside OmniPacker, as their licenses require. They were missing from every earlier release.
Bug Fixes
- The Linux AppImage now starts in sandboxes such as Firejail. Some files inside the AppImage could only be opened by the account that built it, so anything that runs AppImages with enforced permissions failed with "Permission denied". A normal double-click was not affected.
- The Linux app menu entry now has a proper description and category. It used to show a leftover placeholder description and no category.

v1.5.1
Bug Fixes
- DLC is now packed for games that keep their DLC files separately. Some games, such as Dagon: by H. P. Lovecraft and Vampire Survivors, store each DLC's files under the DLC itself instead of under the game. OmniPacker skipped those files entirely, even when your account owned the DLC, so you only got the base game. They are now downloaded with the game the same way Steam and SuperSteamPacker do it, as long as your account owns the DLC. Thank you to the user who reported this with Dagon.
- The DLC report no longer calls this DLC "unlock only". For the games above, the report said there were no files to pack. It now correctly shows each DLC as included, not owned by your account, or not available for the selected OS.

v1.5.0
New Features
- Advanced depot picker. A new "Advanced…" button in the Game Manager lists every depot for the game, tagged with its OS, language, DLC, shared or region info. Check depots to download only those, or paste a manifest ID for each checked depot to download an older build. An "Open on SteamDB" button helps you find manifest IDs. When you pin an older build, OmniPacker names it with the matching build number automatically if SteamDB still lists it, or you can type the build number yourself. Nothing changes unless you check something, so the normal one-click download is the same as before.
- Game language picker. Choose which language's files to download. Previously only English language files were ever downloaded, so games that ship separate language depots (for example Crimson Desert's Spanish, French, German, Japanese and Portuguese files) were missing them.
- DLC report. After each download the console lists every DLC for the game and what happened to it: included, not owned by your account, no files for the selected OS, or unlock-only with nothing to pack. This answers the common "my DLC wasn't packed" question, which is almost always ownership or a DLC that has no files.
- Compression level. A new Settings option picks how hard 7-Zip compresses: Ultra (the default, same as before), Maximum, Normal or Fast. Ultra gives the smallest archive but can take hours on very large games, so the lower levels are there when time matters more than size.
- Archive test. An optional Settings checkbox tests the finished archive for errors before the uncompressed folder is deleted. If the test fails, the bad archive is removed and your files are kept.
- Compression summary. After compressing, the console shows the level used, how long it took, the size before and after, and how much space was saved.
- Pack-time template token. A new
{{upload_datetime_utc}}token shows when the package was made, for anyone who wants that on their "Uploaded version" line. The built-in profiles are unchanged and still show the Steam build date. - Old-build warning. If Steam hands back an older build than the branch's current one, the job shows "Old build: got X, latest is Y" so you know before you upload it.
UX Improvements
- Cancelling a running job now asks for confirmation, with "No" selected by default, so a stray key press can no longer cancel a long download or compression. Cancelling during compression also no longer shows a "7-Zip is not running" error.
- The console no longer jumps to the bottom while you are scrolled up reading earlier output. It follows new lines again once you scroll back down.
- Escape now closes the Settings window, the Template Editor and confirmation dialogs.
- Finalizing a download is much faster and needs far less free disk space. Files are now moved into place instead of copied, so a large game needs about twice its size free instead of three times, and the long copy step is gone.
Bug Fixes
- Games that ship both a global and a Steam China version of the same files (for example Wonderia and CATO) now download only the global version, the same as the Steam client. Previously both were downloaded and mixed together. The China version is still available through the Advanced picker.
- When a requested beta branch does not exist or its password is wrong, the job now stops with an explanation. Previously it quietly downloaded the public branch and named the archive after the beta.
- Game names no longer come out as
app_<id>when Steam's store page is unavailable or the game is delisted. - The "Version" date in templates now matches the build you downloaded. It was often showing the date of the newest update instead, which was wrong for betas and older builds.
- Re-running a job with split archives now shows the overwrite or copy prompt instead of silently leaving an uncompressed folder.
- The main game depot is now always the one named after the game. A DLC depot could sometimes take the game's name.
- Redistributable depots are no longer labelled with the game's name plus a platform, such as "Game - windows".
- Your Steam login token is now cleared when a queue is cancelled or fails and you have not saved your login. Previously it was only cleared after the last job finished successfully.
- The app no longer freezes for a few seconds at launch on a slow connection while checking for updates.
- Failed or interrupted jobs no longer leave a full-size temporary copy of the game behind on disk, and any left over from a crash are cleaned up the next time OmniPacker starts.
- Accented characters in file names now show correctly in the 7-Zip console output on non-English Windows.
- Generated templates now always match the editor preview. Text containing
{{...}}could previously be filled in differently from one run to the next.

v1.4.0
New Features
- Template profiles replace the standard/crew mode toggle. Templates are now saved as named profiles via a "Save Template" button. A multi-select profile dropdown picks which profiles are generated for each job, and clicking a profile name loads it into the editor.
StandardandCreware always-present built-in profiles that can be edited and saved as new custom profiles but cannot be overwritten or deleted. - Per-job multi-file template output. A job emits one
.txtper selected profile. With one profile selected the file keeps the plain<output>.txtname; with two or more, each file is suffixed with the profile name (<output>.<profilename>.txt), so multiple posts can be generated from one download in a single pass. - Editor scratchpad with unsaved-changes guard. The editor is now a scratchpad. Switching profiles or closing the editor with unsaved edits prompts a discard confirm so work is never silently lost.
.jsonprofile import and "Open Profile Folder". Import a shared template.jsonto add it to your library, and open the managed profiles folder in your file manager for backup or sharing.- Per-profile delete from the dropdown. Custom profiles show a trash icon that deletes them after confirmation. Built-in profiles cannot be deleted.
- Global "Uploader name" setting feeds
{{username}}. A single Uploader name setting in the Settings modal now feeds the{{username}}token in any profile. - Global "Upload date" setting feeds
{{upload_date}}. A new Upload date setting feeds a{{upload_date}}token. It is a free-text box plus a "Use today's date" checkbox; when on, a format dropdown offersMonth DD, YYYY,YYYY-MM-DD,DD/MM/YYYY, andMM/DD/YYYY. - Custom output folder setting. A new "Use custom output folder" setting lets you redirect where finished packages are written. Pointing it at a short path also helps avoid Windows path-length failures for deeply-nested games.
- Primary-depot tokens for any block. New
{{primary_depot_id}}and{{primary_manifest_id}}tokens resolve to the main game depot and can be used in the Title, Version, and Free Text blocks, not just the looping Depot List block. - Per-job download progress bar. Each job now shows a progress bar that spans the whole job. The download phase reports its own percent and an
N/M depotscounter, then compression continues the same bar to 100%. Works for QR logins too.
UX Improvements
- Below the design size the UI now reflows to fill the window instead of leaving letterbox/pillarbox bars.
- The Settings modal is now a wider two-column layout instead of a narrow, very tall single column.
- Modal overlays (Settings, Template Editor, and others) now scale with the app when the UI is below 1x.
Bug Fixes
- The update banner no longer breaks the tab/console layout when it appears.
- The
steamapps/commoninstall-dir folder now preserves spaces, so games like "The Crust" produceThe Crustinstead ofThe.Crust. - Shared and DLC depots are now named after their real app instead of showing the game name or a bare depot number. Redistributable depots show "Steamworks Common Redistributables", and DLC depots show the DLC's name.
- Archives now open straight to
steamapps\...instead of nesting the contents under duplicated<Game>.Build....wrapper folders, and the internal working directories were flattened too. This removes several redundant folder levels. - Shorter output paths avoid Windows MAX_PATH failures, where deeply-nested games produced unreadable files past the 260-character limit.
- The portable Windows build is now truly portable. Saved login credentials, template profiles, your custom output folder, and the Steam login token are all kept beside the program instead your Windows AppData folder.
v1.3.3
Bug Fixes
- Cancelling a job during compression now keeps the template file. Previously the uncompressed output folder was kept but its description .txt was skipped, leaving the output without its template. The template is now generated for the kept folder.
v1.3.2
Bug Fixes
- Fixed Linux downloads being labeled as Win64 in the output folder name and template. Linux jobs now correctly show Linux64 (or Linux32 for x86).
v1.3.1
Bug Fixes
- Game folder inside archives now matches your real Steam install: The folder that holds the merged game files used to be named after the depot (for example "Project.Zomboid.-.windows") instead of Steam's actual install folder ("ProjectZomboid"). OmniPacker now looks up Steam's canonical install-directory name and uses it, so the layout inside the archive matches a real Steam install. If the lookup is unavailable it falls back to a clean name based on the game title.

v1.3.0
New Features
- Multi-select OS and branches: Pick several OS targets and several branches at once. One "Add to Queue" click now fans out into a job for every combination, all sharing the same login and queued back-to-back. Branches are type-your-own, each with its own optional password.
- Click-to-insert tokens in the template editor: Every template field now shows clickable chips for the variables it accepts. Click one to drop
{{token}}in at your cursor: no need to memorize or type token names. Hovering a chip explains what it does. - Standard / Crew template modes: The template editor has a mode toggle that switches between the Standard preset and a store-style Crew release-post preset, each with its own "Reset to Default". Switching prompts to Save & Switch, Replace, or Cancel.
- 7-Zip archive splitting: Optionally split the output into multiple volumes (1 GB, 2 GB, 4 GB, 4.7 GB DVD, 5 GB, 10 GB, or a custom size). Reassemble by extracting the .001 file.
- Update notifications: On launch OmniPacker checks GitHub for a newer release and shows a dismissible banner if one exists, with Download and "Skip this version" options. A "Check for Updates" button was added to Settings.
- Login token is cleared when you don't save credentials: If you leave "save credentials" unchecked, OmniPacker now wipes the DepotDownloader login token from disk once the queue finishes. The token is still reused across jobs within the same queue, so there is no extra Steam Guard prompt mid-queue, but nothing is left behind afterward.
- App version in Settings: The running version now shows in the Settings footer.
- "Advertise OmniPacker" block: The OmniPacker credit line is now an optional block you can add from the Block Builder. It is no longer included by default.
Bug Fixes
- Beta-branch passwords are now forwarded: Password-protected betas previously fell back to the public branch because the password was never passed through. It is now sent to DepotDownloader (and redacted from logs).
- QR login no longer drops on later queued jobs: After a QR login, the 2nd and later jobs in a queue failed with an access-token error. QR logins now persist a reusable token so every job in the queue authenticates.
- Cancelling during compression now actually cancels: Hitting Cancel while 7-Zip was compressing used to report success and advance the queue. It now stops the job and the queue cleanly.
- Fixed template file generation failing on some output folders: Writing the template .txt could fail with "Output path must be a directory or .7z file" for dotted folder names. The path is now derived reliably.
- Open Output Folder now opens your finished packages: The button now opens the outputs folder where completed packages land, with its contents shown, instead of the downloads root.
.acffiles no longer record the download time: TheLastUpdatedfield is now always zeroed, matchingLastOwner, so it can't fingerprint when a file was downloaded.

v1.2.0
New Features
- Custom 7-Zip arguments field in settings for passing extra flags (e.g. -mhe=off)
- Header encryption (-mhe=on) is now enabled by default when a compression password is set
Bug Fixes
- Fixed manifest IDs in template output showing the build number instead of the real per-depot manifest IDs
- Fixed the app continuing to run in the background after closing the window on Windows
- Fixed the window showing empty space instead of scaling content when enlarged
- Fixed memory tuning that could cause compression slowdowns or out-of-memory on moderate-RAM systems
- Fixed finalization failing on Windows for games whose names contain characters illegal in Windows paths (e.g. Fallout: New Vegas)
Improvements
- Switched to a custom DepotDownloader fork with depot name and DLC app ID output
- DLC app IDs are now read directly from DepotDownloader, falling back to api.steamcmd.net only when needed
- Depot names now appear in template output
Full Changelog: v1.1.0...v1.2.0
v1.1.0
New Features
- ACF file generation: OmniPacker now generates Steam app manifest (
.acf) files for drop-in Steam library / GreenLuma compatibility, including the Steamworks Common Redistributables manifest (228980) with install scripts, dynamically-sourced buildid, and per-DLC (dlcappid) tagging. - Small-screen support: the UI now scales to fit and the window sizes itself to your monitor on startup, so OmniPacker is usable on sub-1080p displays.
- Multi-platform release workflow: tagged releases (
v*) now automatically build and publish installers for all 6 platforms (Linux x64/arm64, Windows x64/arm64, macOS Intel/Apple Silicon) via GitHub's free CI runners.
Bug Fixes
- Fixed malformed manifest IDs in
.acffiles: generated manifests carried a depot-id prefix (e.g.4001_220404784471597770instead of220404784471597770), so Steam could not match the manifest for multi-depot games, including Source-engine titles. The bare manifest ID is now written. - Fixed multi-depot output layout: non-shared depot files now merge into a single
common/<installdir>/folder, matching Steam's real on-disk layout. Previously each depot got its own sibling folder, which Steam did not recognise. - Fixed shared depot folder fragmentation: redistributables (DirectX, VCRedist, etc.) now merge into a single
Steamworks Shared/folder instead of one folder per depot.
