Security

  • Built with the hardened runtime enabled, so libraries can no longer be injected through environment variables such as DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES.
  • When rotating the log, the new log file is opened without following symbolic links.
  • The README now explains how to verify the downloaded zip's SHA-256 checksum against the value on the releases page before installing.

Fixed

  • install.sh escapes XML special characters in paths written to the LaunchAgent plist, so installation no longer fails when the home folder path contains &, <, or >.

Added

  • Automatically switches the menu bar clock format depending on whether an external monitor is connected.
    • External monitor connected: shows the date and day of the week along with the time.
    • MacBook screen only: shows the time only, leaving more room for menu bar icons next to the notch.
  • Detects display connection changes and switches the clock within 1–2 seconds, with an additional check every minute in case a change is missed (for example, after waking from sleep).
  • Changes only the date and day-of-week display, leaving other clock settings such as AM/PM, 24-hour time, and seconds untouched.
  • --once option to apply the format once and exit without staying resident.
  • install.sh for one-command installation without administrator privileges or Xcode.
    • Registers a LaunchAgent (local.menubar-clock-switcher) so the tool starts automatically at login.
    • Saves the original date and day-of-week settings on first installation.
    • Removes the quarantine attribute from the downloaded binary so it can run without being blocked.
    • Running it again replaces the installed program with the new version.
  • uninstall.sh to remove the program and auto-start registration and restore the original date and day-of-week settings.
  • Installer, uninstaller, and log messages appear in English, or in Korean when the system's primary language is Korean.
  • Universal binary for Apple silicon and Intel Macs, supporting macOS 13 (Ventura) or later.
  • Activity log at ~/Library/Logs/menubar-clock-switcher.log. On startup, a log larger than 1 MB is renamed to menubar-clock-switcher.log.1 (overwriting any existing one) and logging continues in a new file.
  • build.sh to build the universal binary and the distribution zip.
