eqMini 0.4.0 — preview 5

The first normal launch now opens the equalizer window. Closing it keeps eqMini running in the menu bar.

Later startups stay in the menu bar, including launch at login. Login launches do not consume the one-time welcome window. Click the tray icon for the popup, or choose Open Equalizer for the full window.

Requires Apple silicon and macOS 14.2+. Quit eqMini before replacing it in Applications.

The app and DMG are Developer ID signed and notarized by Apple. ZIP and SHA-256 checksums are included.

Build 9. Usage and source.

eqMini 0.4.0 — preview 4

  • Consistent eqMini name and three-fader icon throughout the app.
  • Normal launches open the menu-bar panel. Login launches stay quiet.
  • Clear Enable/Disable labels.
  • A reminder in the regular window explains that closing it keeps eqMini running.

Requires Apple silicon and macOS 14.2+. Quit the previous copy, then move eqMini.app from the DMG into Applications. If Finder keeps the older lowercase-named copy, remove that duplicate to avoid opening the wrong version. Your saved settings use the same bundle identity.

The app and DMG are Developer ID signed and notarized by Apple. System Audio Recording permission is required for live EQ. ZIP and SHA-256 checksums are included.

  • Right-click the menu-bar icon for Open Equalizer, Enable/Bypass, Settings, About, and Quit. Left-click opens the panel.
  • Opening eqmini shows its window; launch at login stays quiet.
  • The first enable after an update shows the audio explanation, including when using the Equalizer menu. Not Now leaves EQ off.
  • Pausing music keeps EQ enabled. The watchdog now checks source playback activity before treating missing callbacks as a stalled route.
  • Audio Recording Settings appears only for permission-related failures.

Requires Apple silicon and macOS 14.2+. Drag eqmini from the DMG into Applications, replacing the previous copy after quitting it. ZIP and SHA-256 checksums are also included.

The app and DMG are Developer ID signed and notarized by Apple. System Audio Recording permission is still required for live EQ. Audio stays on your Mac and is not saved or uploaded.

Build 7. Usage and source.

eqmini 0.4.0 — preview 2

This preview adds Developer ID signing and Apple notarization. Audio processing and controls are unchanged.

Requires Apple silicon and macOS 14.2+. Download the DMG, drag eqmini into Applications, and open it. The ZIP contains the same app. Both packages have stapled notarization tickets and pass local Gatekeeper assessment. SHA-256 checksums are included.

System Audio Recording permission is still required for live EQ. eqmini explains this before requesting access. It does not save recordings or make network requests.

Build 6. See the README for usage and known limits.

eqmini 0.4.0 — preview 1

A small macOS equalizer with system-wide or selected-app processing, Simple and 10-band controls, bass harmonics, and a menu bar panel plus regular window.

Requirements: Apple silicon Mac, macOS 14.2 or later.

Signing status: this is an ad-hoc signed preview, not notarized. A downloaded copy may be blocked by macOS.

Install

  1. Download the DMG and drag eqmini into Applications, or extract the ZIP and move the app there.
  2. Open the app. If macOS blocks this preview and you choose to trust it, use the per-app Open Anyway control in Privacy & Security. Do not disable Gatekeeper globally.
  3. Enable the equalizer. eqmini explains the required System Audio Recording permission before continuing to macOS audio setup.

Audio stays on your Mac, is not saved, and is never uploaded. The app makes no network requests. Policy and support links open your browser.

Launch at login and Restore EQ on launch are both optional and off by default. Closing windows leaves eqmini in the menu bar; Quit stops processing.

Included

  • Flat, Bass Boost, Warm, saved Custom, and full reset.
  • Simple Bass/Voices/Detail controls that follow the current EQ curve.
  • Ten frequency bands, optional Speaker bass harmonics, Keep volume, and output gain.
  • Selected-app routing, native window menus, Settings, About, and optional support links.
  • ZIP, drag-to-Applications DMG, and SHA-256 checksum file.

See the README for screenshots, privacy, source builds, and known limits.

Validation and limits

Strong boosts may cause limiter compression; laptop speakers cannot reproduce physical sub-bass.

The stable bundle identifier is now dev.elma.eqmini. Prototype preferences migrate, but macOS may require a fresh audio permission grant.
