Setting up a game sync

EmuSync edited this page Nov 21, 2025 · 3 revisions

Now you've linked your storage provider, you can set up your first game sync.

  1. Go to Games.
  2. In the top left, use the Add new game button.
  3. Enter a name for the game OR search for a game in the suggestions.
  4. If you want EmuSync to keep the game synced in the background, check the Automatically sync this game? checkbox. I recommend NOT enabling this until you're comfortable with how EmuSync works.
  5. Enter the sync locations for each device you have connected to EmuSync OR if you selected a suggested game, the current device will be populated for you.
  6. Use the Save changes button.

PLEASE NOTE: If using the suggested games, only the current device will have the sync location populated. The name of the game is also set. In some cases, you may have multiple locations available to pick from for a game. In cases like this, you should manually check which is the correct location.

Why is auto sync not recommended?

The auto sync feature is great in most cases, but there is a risk to using it which could lead to your game sames being overwritten with older saves.

If you do decide to use it, please use it with caution and be aware of how it works. I would always recommend double checking that your game files have uploaded before switching off a device, and double checking the EmuSync has downloaded the latest game files before booting up a game.

Scenario 1:

  • You play a game on Device 1.
  • You stop playing the game and power down Device 1` before EmuSync has had a chance to upload the new game files.
  • You open the game on Device 2 and realise the game save isn't synced.
    • Opening the game will often create newer game save files on that device. EmuSync will see that the file are newer than what was last uploaded, then upload them.
  • You go back Device 1, which now sees there are newer files available and downloads them, overwriting your save files.

Scenario 2:

  • You play a game on Device 1.
  • You stop playing and double check EmuSync has uploaded the latest game files - it has.
  • You open the game on Device 2 but before EmuSync has had a chance to download the latest game files.
    • Opening the game will often create newer game save files on that device. EmuSync will see that the file are newer than what was last uploaded, then upload them.
  • You go back Device 1, which now sees there are newer files available and downloads them, overwriting your save files.
