Patternflow v3.9.0 — a tidy-up under the hood
A tidy-up under the hood. Nothing changes in how you use the panel — the same knobs, the same console, the same shelf, the same patterns and .pfm modules. If you are running 3.8.0 there is no rush to update; when you do, everything you have stays.
What this release is
Two months of building at three hundred commits a month left the tree ahead of its own description. This release is the audit that followed, end to end:
- Documentation that describes the code as it is. The firmware README's layout, library list, defaults and calibration values; the agent context file; the PCB README's power wording; the release checklist; every path that still pointed at a directory renamed in August.
docs/README.mdnow indexes the folder, anddocs/EDITIONS.mdcarries the vocabulary — feature, composition, edition — with the older spellings that stay because other software reads them. - CI that runs what existed. Twenty web smoke suites ran when somebody remembered; they run on every pull request now, with a typecheck and a link checker for the docs. The firmware boundary check reads the console pages too. A new harness (Vitest + jsdom) pins the Pattern Lab's two biggest panels with 23 behaviour tests.
- Firmware settings filed with the feature that reads them.
net_config.his the device's own network settings again; OSC, audio, MQTT and weather defaults live infeatures/<name>/<name>_config.h. Same#ifndeforder, so a secrets file or an edition's overrides win exactly as before. The absolute bus scale has a name (PF_BUS_MAX) on both sides. - A web
lib/with a shape, a community server side with a door, and a Pattern Lab whose panels are one registry, whose storage is one list, and whose two biggest panels are compositions of small hooks. - The shelf is
/editions./variants— the URL every 3.8.0 console page carries — redirects there permanently. - The Home Assistant integration has moved out. It was a community contribution, and its author now maintains it in a repository of their own; the device's HTTP API it was built against is unchanged.
The full list is in CHANGELOG.md.
What arrived on the shelf during this cycle
Two things shipped as edition images while the audit was under way and are listed in the changelog rather than written up here: the Audio edition's network MIDI (v0.5.0 — the panel as an RTP-MIDI port, CC 20–23 for the knobs, an Ableton walk-through in AUDIO_GUIDE.md) and the panel answering to more names (http://patternflow/ over NetBIOS for Windows, a per-panel patternflow-xxxx.local alias). They deserve their own releases with proper walk-throughs, and those — audio first — are being prepared separately, with care.
Installing
Already running Patternflow: pick the core on patternflow.work/editions — one click, over Wi-Fi. Or drop patternflow.ino.bin on http://patternflow.local/update.
A new board, or recovery over USB: all four images with offsets in FLASHING.md, or the browser flasher at https://patternflow.work/flash.
The Audio (v0.5.0) and Performance (v0.2.1) edition images are unchanged from the shelf and attached here for completeness.
