Rosetun 0.1.0-beta.1

This is the first beta of 0.1. From here 0.1 only gets fixes, in further betas, until 0.1.0. Please use it every day and report what breaks in Issues; report vulnerabilities privately through Security.

What's changed

• Security.
  • Another Windows account on the same computer can no longer disconnect your tunnel, change it or read its temporary rules. Only the account that connected it, or an administrator, can.
  • The service no longer lets programs that connect to it and then stay silent lock out the app and rosetun.
• First connection after installing. When Windows takes long to set up the tunnel adapter, Rosetun no longer gives up with "server unreachable" too early.
• Server checks do not depend on one company. The full check, the tunnel delay and the checks while connecting ask Cloudflare and Google at the same time, so a server whose exit cannot reach one of them still works. The DNS watchdog does the same.
• Servers near the time limit are no longer shown as not working by "Check servers" and "Delay".
• The TCP ping runs only when the tunnel is known to be down. Right after start it could show the same time for every server.
• Lists. Connecting with large lists is faster: each list is verified once. A damaged saved copy of a category no longer stops the connection; the rule is skipped with a warning.
• Small windows and large scaling. At 125 and 150 % the header shows tab icons, and the rules toolbar wraps to two rows instead of squeezing the action filter.
• Layout fixes in the list card and the category picker.

Known issue: REALITY servers on Xray 26.9.8 and newer

VLESS + REALITY servers updated to Xray 26.9.8 or newer refuse connections from sing-box, the engine Rosetun uses (SagerNet/sing-box#4520). Rosetun then says the server rejected the connection and explains why. Try another server or ask your provider. A fix is planned.

Help wanted: IPv6

If your provider gives you IPv6, connect and open test-ipv6.com. It should show no IPv6 address. Please report what it shows in Issues.

Settings, subscriptions, lists and rules from 0.1.0-alpha.6 are kept as they are; older versions are upgraded on the first start as before. The app and the service are updated together by the installer.

• Безопасность.
  • Другая учётная запись Windows на этом компьютере больше не может отключить ваш туннель, изменить его или прочитать его временные правила. Это может только учётная запись, которая его подключила, или администратор.
  • Программы, которые подключаются к службе и молчат, больше не могут заблокировать доступ к ней для приложения и rosetun.

• Списки. Подключение с большими списками быстрее: каждый список проверяется один раз. Повреждённая сохранённая копия категории больше не мешает подключиться; правило пропускается с предупреждением.
• Маленькое окно и крупный масштаб. При 125 и 150 % в шапке остаются значки вкладок, а панель правил переносится на две строки вместо того, чтобы сжимать фильтр действий.
• Исправлена вёрстка карточки списка и выбора категорий.

Известная проблема: серверы REALITY на Xray 26.9.8 и новее

Серверы VLESS + REALITY, обновлённые до Xray 26.9.8 или новее, не принимают подключения от sing-box, на котором работает Rosetun (SagerNet/sing-box#4520). Rosetun в этом случае пишет, что сервер отклонил подключение, и объясняет почему. Попробуйте другой сервер или напишите провайдеру. Исправление запланировано.

Нужна помощь: IPv6

Если провайдер даёт вам IPv6, подключитесь и откройте test-ipv6.com. Адреса IPv6 там быть не должно. Пожалуйста, сообщите, что показала страница, в Issues.

Настройки, подписки, списки и правила из 0.1.0-alpha.6 сохраняются как есть; более старые версии, как и раньше, обновляются при первом запуске. Программу и службу установщик обновляет вместе.

What's new

• Your own lists of sites and addresses. Rules has a new Lists tab. Add a list by link or from a file: sing-box rule sets (.srs and .json), Xray geosite.dat and geoip.dat, or plain text with one domain or address per line. Files up to 128 MiB are accepted. Lists from links update together with subscriptions.
• Rules by list. In the new rule dialog, List routes a whole list, or for geosite.dat and geoip.dat the categories you tick, through the VPN, directly, or blocks them. Tick several categories to add a rule for each at once; a category with an attribute, such as google@cn, can be typed into the search.
• When a list loses a category. If an updated .dat file no longer has a category a rule uses, the rule keeps working with the last version of that category, and Rosetun warns in the rule row, on the list and on the connection screen. If there is no earlier version, the rule is skipped and the warning says so.
• List updates while connected. A list you update by hand applies when you leave the tab, like a rule edit. An automatic update does not restart the tunnel: the list shows "Updated · takes effect on the next connection".
• Rule dialog. Only until disconnect moved into Advanced, which now opens below its heading; when it is on and Advanced is closed, the heading says so. When Add rule is unavailable, the dialog says why. Unavailable main buttons across the app are easier to see.
• Rules screen. The rule set selector moved up, next to the Rules · Lists switch.
• Program rules ignore letter case. A rule for telegram.exe now also matches Telegram.exe, as Windows does with file names.
• Edits are not lost on quit. Quitting from the tray while connected applies pending rule and DNS edits first.
• A dead server is recognized sooner. When the server does not answer at all, Rosetun now says so in about 15 seconds instead of waiting a full minute, even when no other program is using the network. The same applies when you switch to such a server while connected.
• rosetun status while connecting now shows the state instead of failing while the service is busy.
• The command line and the app agree. rosetun apply keeps temporary rules added in the app, and settings changed in the app and in rosetun at the same time are both kept.
• Security.
  • The app checks that it talks to the real Rosetun service, and other accounts on the computer can no longer pose as it.
  • The service limits how many connections it accepts at once and checks every request more strictly.
  • VLESS and VMess credentials no longer appear in debug output.
  • Messages from the network library that may carry secrets are no longer logged.
  • If the service fails unexpectedly, it no longer leaves the network blocked.

Settings, subscriptions and rules from 0.1.0-alpha.5 are kept: the settings move to format 3 on the first start, and the previous file is saved as config.v2.json next to config.json in %APPDATA%\Rosetun. To go back to 0.1.0-alpha.5, put that copy back as config.json; lists and list rules are then lost.

Что нового

• Свои списки сайтов и адресов. На вкладке Правила появился раздел Списки. Список можно добавить по ссылке или из файла: наборы правил sing-box (.srs и .json), geosite.dat и geoip.dat от Xray или обычный текст, один домен или адрес на строку. Файлы до 128 МиБ. Если прошлой версии нет, правило не работает, и предупреждение говорит об этом.
• Обновление списков при подключении. Список, обновлённый вручную, применяется, когда вы уходите с вкладки, как правка правил. Автоматическое обновление не перезапускает туннель: у списка видно «Обновлён · применится при следующем подключении».
• Окно правила. Только до отключения переехало в раздел Дополнительно, который теперь раскрывается под своим заголовком; если оно включено, а раздел свёрнут, это видно у заголовка. Если Добавить правило недоступно, окно пишет почему. Недоступные основные кнопки во всей программе стали заметнее.
• Экран правил. Выбор набора правил переехал наверх, к переключателю Правила · Списки.
• Правила для программ без учёта регистра. Правило для telegram.exe теперь срабатывает и для Telegram.exe, как и принято в Windows для имён файлов.
• Правки не теряются при выходе. Выход из трея при подключении сначала применяет непримененные правки правил и DNS.
• Неработающий сервер распознаётся быстрее. Если сервер совсем не отвечает, Rosetun сообщает об этом примерно через 15 секунд, а не ждёт целую минуту, даже когда другие программы не пользуются сетью. То же при переключении на такой сервер во время подключения.
• rosetun status во время подключения теперь показывает состояние, а не завершается с ошибкой, пока служба занята.
• Командная строка и программа заодно. rosetun apply сохраняет временные правила, добавленные в программе, а настройки, измененные одновременно в программе и в rosetun, сохраняются обе.
• Безопасность.
  • Программа проверяет, что говорит с настоящей службой Rosetun, и другие учётные записи компьютера больше не могут выдать себя за неё.
  • Служба ограничивает число одновременных подключений и строже проверяет каждый запрос.
  • Учётные данные VLESS и VMess больше не попадают в отладочный вывод.
  • Сообщения сетевой библиотеки, в которых могут быть секреты, больше не пишутся в журнал.
  • Если служба неожиданно падает, она больше не оставляет сеть заблокированной.

What's new

• Clearer connection failures. While connecting, Rosetun shows the current step and how long it has taken, and Cancel stops the attempt. When a connection fails, it says why: the server is not responding, rejected the connection, closed it, or did not respond in time, or the engine did not start in time. If another VPN is enabled, or a program that filters traffic (winws.exe or goodbyedpi.exe) is running, the error names it and says what to do.
• More reliable connects. Rosetun waits for Windows to remove the previous tunnel adapter before starting again; a reconnect right after a failure could hang before. It allows more time when Windows creates the adapter slowly. The connection check through the server waits up to a minute for a slow server, but gives up early when the server clearly fails.
• Rule and DNS edits apply when you leave the tab. While connected, edits no longer wait for a button: they apply when you leave Rules or Settings, or hide the window. Apply now applies them at once. If they cannot be applied, Rosetun brings back the previous rules and DNS, both in the tunnel and in the settings, and Restore my edits returns your edits so you can fix them.
• Select several rules. Ctrl+click and Shift+click select several rules, Ctrl+A selects all shown. Selected rules can be dragged together, moved with Move to top and Move to end, or deleted with Delete selected. Esc clears the selection; Delete asks to delete the selected rules.
• Install folder. On a first install you can choose another folder on a local drive. The installer checks that standard users cannot change it or the folders above it, because the service runs from it with SYSTEM rights, and names the folder that fails the check. Upgrades keep the previous folder.
• Delete your data on uninstall. The uninstaller offers Also delete settings, subscriptions and rules. Other users' data on the computer stays.
• Privacy. Engine messages in the log no longer contain site addresses unless Verbose log is on.
• The connect button now blooms in layers when connected. The petals in the header are fainter.

Settings, subscriptions and rules from 0.1.0-alpha.4 are kept. The settings format has not changed, so going back to 0.1.0-alpha.4 keeps them too.

• Понятные ошибки подключения. Во время подключения Rosetun показывает текущий шаг и сколько он длится, а Отменить останавливает попытку. Если подключиться не удалось, Rosetun пишет почему: сервер не отвечает, отклонил подключение, закрыл соединение или не ответил вовремя, или ядро не успело запуститься. Если включён другой VPN или запущена программа, которая фильтрует трафик (winws.exe или goodbyedpi.exe), в ошибке названа она и сказано, что сделать.

Применить сейчас применяет их сразу. Если применить не получилось, Rosetun возвращает прежние правила и DNS и в туннеле, и в настройках, а Вернуть мои правки возвращает ваши правки, чтобы их можно было исправить.
• Выделение нескольких правил. Ctrl+щелчок и Shift+щелчок выделяют несколько правил, Ctrl+A выделяет все показанные. Выделенные правила можно перетащить вместе, переместить кнопками В начало и В конец или удалить кнопкой Удалить выбранные. Esc снимает выделение, Delete предлагает удалить выделенные.
• Папка установки. При первой установке можно выбрать другую папку на локальном диске. Установщик проверяет, что обычные пользователи не могут менять её и папки выше, потому что служба запускается из неё с правами SYSTEM, и называет папку, которая не прошла проверку. При обновлении папка остаётся прежней.
• Удаление данных вместе с программой. При удалении Rosetun предлагает Также удалить настройки, подписки и правила. Данные других пользователей компьютера остаются.
• Приватность. Сообщения ядра в журнале больше не содержат адресов сайтов, если не включён Подробный журнал.
• Кнопка подключения теперь раскрывается слоями, как роза. Лепестки в заголовке стали бледнее.

Настройки, подписки и правила из 0.1.0-alpha.4 сохраняются. Формат настроек не изменился, поэтому при возврате на 0.1.0-alpha.4 они тоже сохранятся.

What's new

• Hysteria2. Subscriptions can now carry Hysteria2 servers, as links or in sing-box JSON, with Salamander obfuscation and port hopping. Hysteria2 runs over UDP, so TCP ping does not apply to it; use URL test.
• New version notice. Rosetun asks GitHub for its list of releases at launch, if a day has passed since the last check, and then once a day. A new version shows under Settings → About, with a dot on the Settings tab, Open release page and Skip this version. Nothing is downloaded or installed. Check now checks at once; Check for updates turns automatic checks off.
• TLS fingerprint. TLS servers that do not set a fingerprint now present Chrome's, as most clients do, instead of Go's own.
• Settings survive upgrades. The settings file now carries a format version. The first time it saves settings (also after the first update check), Rosetun 0.1.0-alpha.4 moves the file to the new format and keeps the previous one next to it as config.v1.json; it contains the same subscription links.
• Server checks are now called TCP ping and URL test. Links use the rose accent colour.

Settings, subscriptions and rules from 0.1.0-alpha.3 are kept. Going back to 0.1.0-alpha.3 after the settings were saved in the new format: the older version refuses to open the new file and leaves it untouched; replace config.json with config.v1.json to use it.

• Проверки серверов теперь называются Пинг TCP и Проверка URL. Ссылки окрашены в розовый цвет оформления.

Настройки, подписки и правила из 0.1.0-alpha.3 сохраняются. Если вернуться на 0.1.0-alpha.3 после того, как настройки сохранены в новом формате, старая версия откажется открывать новый файл и не изменит его; чтобы пользоваться ею, замените config.json файлом config.v1.json.

What's new

• Change the server, rules or DNS while connected. Choosing another server or rule set applies at once; after editing rules or DNS, select Apply. The tunnel restarts for a second or two without disconnecting, and the kill switch keeps traffic blocked meanwhile. If the new server does not work, Rosetun returns to the previous one.
• Temporary rules. Mark a new rule Temporary to keep it only until you disconnect. It applies at once, is never saved, and survives automatic reconnects. Keep permanently in the rule's menu turns it into an ordinary rule.
• Traffic tab. Download and upload speed, session totals and a chart over 1, 5 or 15 minutes. The connection screen keeps one line with the current speed.
• Server checks are now called Ping and Real delay.

When you switch to a server given by name while connected, its address is resolved through the current tunnel. Settings and subscriptions from 0.1.0-alpha.2 are kept.

What's new

• Server checks. The Check menu on a subscription card offers a Quick check (TCP connection time, available when disconnected) and a Full check (an HTTPS request through each server, available while connected). A server that accepts a TCP connection but fails the full check is marked "not working". Right-click a server to check just that one.
• Delay of the current server on the connection screen, measured a few seconds after connecting; click it to measure again.
• A compact rule set menu on the connection screen.
• Open and All processes tabs in the add-rule dialog.
• Drag subscriptions by their header; the card shows time remaining before expiry (amber in the last 7 days, red once expired).
• "Applies on next connect" appears only after a setting really changed.

Each full check sends one HTTPS request to https://cp.cloudflare.com/generate_204 through each checked server; measuring delay sends one through the current server. Settings and subscriptions from 0.1.0-alpha.1 are kept.
