Zimi v1.10.2

A fix-up release from a pass over every feature Zimi has claimed since 1.0.

Changed

• Release files are named Zimi-<version>-<platform>-<chip>: Zimi-1.10.2-macOS-AppleSilicon.dmg, -macOS-Intel.dmg, -Windows-x64-Setup.exe, -Windows-x64.zip, -Linux-x64.AppImage, -Linux-x64.snap. Updates and Homebrew follow the new names.

• Nearby announces this server on the network only when it is switched on. Every install announced itself before, whatever the switch said.

• "Remember me" keeps a session, not the admin password. A password stored by an earlier version is removed from the browser. Changing the password asks for the current one.

• Preferred languages narrow search. Other languages stay as dimmed pills you can tap.

• A medicine or Wikipedia ZIM in two flavors (maxi and nopic) is served once, as the richer one, and old links to the other flavor redirect.

• The desktop app can open Zimi to other devices on the network, from a switch in Settings (off by default). It shows the address to open on a phone. A visitor reads the library; Manage still needs the admin password, which is set on the computer running Zimi (#90).

Fixed

• The Linux snap opens its window on a real desktop (#81).
• Apps switched off in Settings stay off (#88).
• Quick search answers in a fraction of a second. Multi-word queries fell back to a slow title scan on most ZIMs, and index builds on the server stalled searches while they ran; big builds now run in a process of their own.
• Did-you-mean works from startup on every ZIM. Its vocabulary was stale, built late and partial.
• Search puts the article titled as typed first, shows the article's lead sentence as the snippet, and says when it was throttled.
• The language globe offers the same article in another language, or nothing. It offered look-alikes (English Water gave Spanish "Inodoro").
• The Q-ID badge shows from the start instead of after hours of indexing.
• Book of the Day is the same book on every visit that day.
• The On This Day card shows its date; recent history shows page titles, not file names.
• A mouse wheel scrolls the Discover strip and the pill rows.
• Reader View draws one line under the title; tap-to-zoom, Print, Share and Define work on every article; the PDF viewer follows the language setting.
• A link to a missing article shows a page with a library search, not raw JSON.
• The almanac: Hebrew dates, moon-phase marks, the meteor "Peak!" day, the time zone label, BC years, the shallow penumbral eclipses, and "beyond range" where an estimate stops holding.
• "About this data" in the almanac says where each number comes from.
• ZimiTube reads current Kiwix video ZIMs: multi-language TED (ted_mul) and youtube2zim 3.x channels such as CrashCourse and Blender Studio, with their subtitles (#89).
• ZimiTube shows videos Zimi made and one card per TED talk; a talk whose video is missing says so.
• ZimiTube search finds a video by its description as well as its title, for every source; multi-language TED and youtube2zim 3.x descriptions are read once in the background, so the feed opens without waiting for them, and the player shows the whole description.
• The catalog: ZIMI_OFFLINE stays offline, "Part of" badges stay within a project, seeding survives being switched off and on, and a small library's size is not 0 B.
• Nearby tells two servers on one host apart, and keeps its ZIM count current.
• Maps: search from a map opened by link, Enter flies to the place, and visitors can open the map picker.
• The Mac app reports its real version, so Sparkle stops offering an update that is already installed.
• Manage no longer sticks on "Loading..." after a correct password.
• A title index build interrupted by a restart no longer fails every start after it.
• zimi serve prints its READY <port> line whole; a log line from startup could split it, and a script waiting for it missed it.
