Support Optimizer v1.0.12

Choose a tag to compare

@erikeppinger erikeppinger released this 20 Oct 15:49
  • Filled cavities now become part of the subunit around them. A cavity inside one chain is filled exactly, by removing its inner skin; a pocket between chains gets a seal that reaches slightly into the surrounding walls. Either way the slicer prints one continuous solid instead of a loose plug inside its pocket.
  • Find cavities lists only genuinely empty space. A chain's own inside, and the overlap between neighboring chains, were showing up as cavities and getting an extra inner skin when filled.
  • 3MF export has a new option, on by default: color each chain all the way through in PrusaSlicer. Prusa's current profiles for the MK4/MK4S, Core One and XL carry painted colors only 5 mm into the model, so the inside of a chain came out in another extruder's color, with extra walls around it. OrcaSlicer's profiles keep that limit off.
  • Filled cavities print as solid material without tiny leftover pockets: seals now reach the real cavity walls, and a new 3MF export option, on by default, has PrusaSlicer close gaps narrower than the nozzle.

  • Long steps — building a surface, finding or filling cavities, searching orientations — now show roughly how much time is left in the status line.
  • The help for the critical overhang angle now explains that lower angles take longer to compute.

Support Optimizer v1.0.10

@erikeppinger erikeppinger released this 19 Oct 09:39
  • 3MF export keeps your model in one piece: instead of one part per color, it saves a single closed mesh with each color painted onto its own extruder, the way PrusaSlicer, Bambu Studio and OrcaSlicer's own paint tools do. Slicers no longer report open edges, and a ChimeraX-painted model keeps its painting through optimization.

Support Optimizer v1.0.9

@erikeppinger erikeppinger released this 06 Oct 08:10
  • This welcome dialog, with a quick start and links to the manual, the desktop downloads and the source code. Reopen it any time from the ⓘ button in the lower-right corner.

Support Optimizer v1.0.8

Choose a tag to compare

@erikeppinger erikeppinger released this 01 Oct 12:35
  • Fixed: several in-app help ("?") texts still described how the app worked before v1.0.6. Fill cavities and Fill tunnels now explain the current sealing margins (a buried cavity is sealed in full, a tunnel always keeps a 1-voxel margin so its opening is never closed over), and Find cavities / Find tunnels no longer claim that each button refreshes both lists.
  • The Optimize orientation help now mentions that the search is randomly rotated on every run, so the result doesn't depend on how the structure is oriented in its file
  • Smaller help-text corrections for Undo and "Ligands & ions found"
  • The README now links to these installers, explains how releases are published, and describes water/ligand handling, 3MF colors and the colorblind toggle

Support Optimizer v1.0.7

@erikeppinger erikeppinger released this 01 Oct 12:01
  • New: colorblind-safe color toggle. It switches the chain colors to the Tol Muted palette (and back), and the axis gizmo, overhang shading and cavity-highlight colors to Okabe–Ito colors. Structures loaded while it's on start with the safe palette. A chain palette you picked yourself is kept; colors from an imported 3MF stay the file's own.
  • Fixed: a 3MF file that carries color only as slicer paint data (PrusaSlicer's slic3rpe:mmu_segmentation / Bambu-Orca's paint_color — e.g. files exported by ChimeraX's own 3MF exporter) imported as one flat gray color instead of its original per-part colors
  • Reworked ion/ligand handling: instead of one global "include ions & ligands" toggle, loading a PDB/mmCIF now shows a checklist of the heteroatoms actually present in that file, so you choose which ones to keep before the surface is built
  • Fixed: cavity sealing was skipping the large majority of detected voids as "too thin to seal," and got worse (not better) at higher resolution — sealing now erodes by a margin based on how far a cavity actually sits from the model's exterior, instead of one fixed margin for every cavity regardless of depth
  • The version badge now reads "v: 1.x.y" in the lower-right corner

Support Optimizer v1.0.5

@github-actions github-actions released this 30 Sep 08:15
  • New: "Include ions & ligands" toggle for PDB/mmCIF import — non-water heteroatoms (ions, bound ligands, buffer/cryo molecules) can now be excluded before the surface is built, the same way water already is, for structures where a loose one causes the same disconnected-fragment problem
  • Fixed: crystallographic water molecules in PDB/mmCIF files were baked into the printable surface as tiny isolated blobs, disconnected from the main structure — slicers then treated each one as its own tiny floating object needing support, which could shake loose mid-print and jam the print head. Waters are now excluded from every import.
  • Fixed a rare case where the orientation-search randomization (v1.0.3) could weaken its own guarantee for axis-aligned CAD/STL parts
  • Fixed: drag-and-drop didn't work in the installed Windows app (Tauri was intercepting file drops before the page ever saw them)
  • Tunnels and cavities are now reviewed/filled as two independent lists — finding one no longer resets your review of the other
  • Fixed a horizontal scrollbar appearing when multiple sections were expanded
  • Oversized-void safety check: Fill now refuses a "cavity"/"tunnel" that's actually a large fraction of the model's own volume, instead of concatenating a giant patch
  • Export STL/3MF now opens a native Save As dialog instead of always dropping into Downloads (desktop app only)
  • Orientation search is no longer biased by a structure's arbitrary file-coordinate pose
  • Reduced idle GPU usage
  • Organic support-path preview: choose Organic (tree-like), Snug (straight, follows the model's shape), or Grid (straight, regular lattice) — still illustrative only, never affects export
  • New app icon
