Tachiyomi extensions

Tachiyomi/Mihon extensions run inside the app, so their manga are read with this app's reader, favorites, history, downloads and cloud sync. It works the way Tachimanga does: the extensions run in an extension host that comes with the app, with no server to deploy.

Platforms

Platform How extensions run Notes
Android The system loads the extension APKs directly Extensions that need a web page use the system WebView, sharing cookies with the host
iOS A Java runtime (OpenJDK) inside the app; extensions are converted to Java code when installed Web pages for extensions are shown by the app's WKWebView
macOS A Java runtime bundled with the app Apple silicon only; web pages as on iOS
Windows, Linux A Java runtime bundled with the app Extensions cannot use a web page yet, so extensions that need a web login or check cannot complete that step

Getting started

  1. Choose Tachiyomi in the source picker at the top of the navigation drawer. The left column becomes Sources, Search, Updates and Extensions, plus the shared favorites, history, downloads and settings.
  2. Open Extensions → Repositories, tap Add repository and enter the URL of the repository's index.min.json. The app comes with no repository.
  3. Find the extension under Available and tap Install. If you have the APK file, Install APK from file in the top-right menu works too.
  4. Back on Sources, open a source to browse it.

Under Installed you can update or uninstall extensions; the settings button next to one opens its Tachiyomi source settings (the extension's own settings, such as an image server or a login switch).

Browsing and searching

  • Sources: every source of the installed extensions, with Recently used on top. In a source, switch between Popular and Latest; Filter holds the source's own filters, applied with Apply.
  • Search: by default Search all sources, one request to each source when you submit; or pick a single source, whose results open as its list with its filters.
  • Updates: pull to refresh to check the manga in Tachiyomi Favorites for new chapters, one chapter-list request per manga to its site. Nothing is requested on its own.
  • Favorites: pulling down Tachiyomi Favorites checks for new chapters too; those whose newest chapter was not opened yet (never read ones too) come first, those read up to it show faded.

Reading, favorites and downloads

  • Details, the chapter list and the reader work as for JM's multi-chapter albums: progress is kept per chapter, the next chapter follows when scrolling and the previous one is put before the first page when scrolling back, and pages can be upscaled while reading.
  • The favorites switch has Tachiyomi Favorites, which can also be mixed with the other sites' favorites.
  • Downloads take one chapter or all of them.

Sites that need a login

Some extensions need you to log in (or pass a check) in a web page first:

  1. Tap Open in WebView at the top right of the source or of its source settings, and log in or pass the check there.
  2. Close the page; the site's cookies are handed to the extension.
  3. If the extension asks for it, turn on its login switch in Tachiyomi source settings.

Clear extension cookies in the Extensions menu clears all cookies the extensions keep.

Moving from Tachiyomi, Mihon or Tachimanga

Create a backup (.tachibk) in Tachiyomi, Mihon or Tachimanga, then choose Import Tachiyomi backup in the Extensions menu:

  • the library becomes Tachiyomi Favorites (categories map to favorite folders in order, the eleventh on into the last one), with read chapters, chapters read halfway and history; favorites and history pages already open show them at once.
  • the backup's extension repositories are added and the extensions it uses are installed from them. Tachimanga backups have no repositories: add yours under Extensions → Repositories before importing; if you imported first, add them and import again to install the extensions, and nothing imported is doubled.
  • manga of the local source are left out: their files are on the device that made the backup.
  • a summary lists what was imported; sources whose extension was not found are listed, and their manga open once the extension is installed.
  • Tachimanga keeps only the chapters read or begun, so such a manga's full chapter list is fetched from its site the first time you open it; from then on lists and history show "chapter x of y".

Cloud sync

Cloud sync has three items for this: Tachiyomi extension repositories (repositories only; each device chooses its own extensions, and sync neither installs nor removes them), Tachiyomi source settings (may include logins) and Tachiyomi Favorites. History and reading progress travel with the existing items; downloaded files and cookies are not synced.

Note: since 8.2.0 extension repositories and source settings no longer cross over with old versions, so every syncing device needs upgrading, see Cloud sync. Before synced settings first replace different ones on a device, that device keeps a copy; Restore the settings this device had on that source's settings page brings it back.

FAQ

Q: Sources says "The extension host did not start"

Tap Retry. On iOS, if the app quit the last time it started the host, it stops starting the host on its own and asks you to tap Retry; if that fails too, please report it with a screenshot and the version number.

Q: Something in one extension fails

When an extension uses an Android feature the host does not implement yet, only that action fails; the rest of the extension keeps working. Known so far: a few extensions need to draw text into images, which does not work on iOS and desktop yet; on Windows and Linux, steps that need a web page cannot be completed.

Q: Where do I find extension repositories?

The app neither provides nor recommends any repository. Use the repository URLs you added in Tachiyomi/Mihon.
