🦐 Composture — a posture-detection desktop buddy for macOS.

A little shrimp floats on your screen and watches how you sit. Slouch and he slowly cooks (grey → pink, curls up, looks scared); keep slouching and he dies. Sit up straight and hold it to bring him back. Everything runs locally on your webcam — no video ever leaves your Mac.

For Apple Silicon Macs (M1 / M2 / M3 / M4).

Install

1. Download Composture.dmg below and open it.

2. Drag Composture onto the Applications folder shown in the window.

3. First launch — get past the security prompt (you only do this once):
   Open Composture from your Applications folder. macOS will say it can't verify the developer. Then:

   • Open System Settings → Privacy & Security.
   • Scroll all the way to the bottom — you'll see a message about Composture being blocked.
   • Click "Open Anyway", then click Open to confirm (enter your password/Touch ID if asked).

   (On older macOS you can instead right-click Composture → Open → Open.)

   This is normal for free apps that aren't notarized by Apple — after this first time, it opens like any other app.

4. Click Allow when it asks for camera access.

5. Composture lives in your menu bar (no dock icon) — look for the shrimp icon at the top-right, and the floating shrimp near the top of your screen.

(If you ever see a "damaged" message, open Terminal and run xattr -cr /Applications/Composture.app, then reopen.)

Using it

• Press start, sit up straight for the 3-second calibration, then get to work.
• Slouch → he cooks. Sit up → he recovers. Right-click the shrimp to recalibrate.
• Menu-bar icon: toggle Sound, view Session history, or Quit.
