MultiNotify v1.2 Beta - Release Notes

Overview

This v1.2 Beta release introduces major upgrades to MultiNotify, making it far easier to use, configure, and deploy.
It focuses on dynamic configuration, improved user experience, and better out-of-the-box support for fresh systems.

What's New

1. Dynamic Bot Commands

• Added new commands for full control without restarting:
  • !setsubreddit [name] – Change or view the monitored subreddit.
  • !setinterval [seconds] – Adjust or view the Reddit polling interval.
  • !setpostlimit [number] – Control how many posts to fetch each check.
  • !setflairs [flairs] – Filter by flairs, or clear filters to accept all posts.
  • !enabledms [true/false] – Toggle DM notifications.
  • !adddmuser [id] / !removedmuser [id] – Manage DM recipient lists.
  • !status – Shows full bot settings, including last Reddit check time.
  • !whereenv – Shows the full .env file path being used.
  • !reloadenv – Reloads .env on the fly (no restart needed).
  • !help – Lists all commands in a prettified embed.

2. Embed-Based Responses

• All bot replies now use Discord embeds for a clean and consistent look.
• Includes clear sectioned outputs for configuration, status, and updates.

3. Automatic .env Updates

• Any changes made via commands automatically update the .env file.
• Ensures settings persist after container restarts.
• Compatible with both Discord bot mode and Webhook-only mode.

4. Webhook-Only Mode

• The bot can now run without a Discord bot token by setting:

  ENABLE_DM=false
  DISCORD_BOT_TOKEN=
  

• Still posts to DISCORD_WEBHOOK_URL (Discord, Slack, or other services) without logging in as a bot.

5. Improved Docker Integration

• docker-compose.yml updated to:
  • Mount .env so command changes persist outside the container.
  • Keep bot.py mapped for easy development.
• README updated with a full working Compose example.

6. Fresh System Friendly

• Works out-of-the-box on any machine with Docker.
• Includes .env.example with all variables and instructions.
• No need to edit files manually after setup — all configuration can be handled via commands.

Upgrade Notes

• Replace your old README.md and .env.example with the new versions.
• Use the updated docker-compose.yml to ensure .env is mounted properly.
• Invite the bot only if you need DM and command functionality; otherwise, webhook-only mode works without it.

Known Beta Notes

• Only single-page embeds for !help (pagination may come in future).
• Slack notifications remain plain text for compatibility.
