MultiNotify v1.7 (Beta) — Release Notes

This release focuses on delivery control, routing flexibility, diagnostics, and long-term stability, while tightening behavior around personal delivery to prevent spam and misconfiguration.

New Features

Threaded Posting (Discord)

  • Added threaded posting for Discord channels.
  • Thread usage is controlled by:
    • A global default (/setthreadmode)
  • Threads are:
    • Automatically reused
    • Cleaned up after a configurable TTL (/setthreadttl)
  • Thread mode does not apply to DMs.

Advanced Routing

  • Keyword-based routing (global)
    Route Reddit or RSS items containing specific keywords to specific Discord channels:

    • /setglobalkeywordroute
    • /listglobalkeywordroutes
    • /delglobalkeywordroute

  • Flair-based routing (global, Reddit only)
    Route Reddit posts with specific flairs to specific Discord channels:

    • /setglobalflairroute
    • /listglobalflairroutes
    • /delglobalflairroute

  • Routing rules are evaluated before default delivery.

  • If no route matches, content follows the normal delivery path.

Diagnostic Commands

New commands to explain why something did or didn’t deliver:

  • /why — Explain personal delivery behavior
  • /whyexpected — Show blockers first with suggested fixes
  • /whyglobal — Explain global pipeline behavior (admin-only)

These commands inspect:

  • Filters
  • Routing rules
  • Quiet hours
  • Digests
  • Seen tracking

Behavior Changes

Personal Delivery Is Now DM-Only

  • Personal notifications are now DM-only by design.
  • The /setchannel command remains available but is deprecated:
    • It no longer changes delivery behavior
    • It returns an informational message explaining the change
  • This prevents accidental spam, misconfiguration, and permission issues.

Headless Mode

  • The bot can run fully headless (no DISCORD_TOKEN):
    • Webhook delivery only
    • No slash commands
    • No Discord channels, threads, or DMs
  • In pure headless mode, the following features still work:
    • Reddit subreddit monitoring
    • RSS/Atom feed monitoring
    • Global keyword and flair filtering
    • Global watched Reddit users
    • Webhook delivery (Discord and non-Discord)
    • Seen-item tracking and duplicate prevention

Cleanup & Deprecations

  • /setchannel is deprecated (retained for backward compatibility).
  • Personal keyword routing commands are disabled in DM-only mode.
  • Legacy /setkeywords remains supported but is discouraged.(Unless you know what you're doing)

Configuration Changes

New optional .env settings:

THREAD_MODE=true
THREAD_TTL_HOURS=24
  • .env continues to auto-persist when modified via slash commands (Discord mode).
  • Runtime configuration (routing, filters, preferences) is stored in the persistent data/ directory.

Notes

  • This release is marked Beta.
  • No database migration is required.
  • Existing configurations continue to work.
